I wonder if this guy will go down in notoriety with the various Mansons and John Wayne Gacys of history? He certainly seems to have psychological issues of some sort with the "I am God" comment. Usually the more "out there" you are, the more fame you seem to accumulate.

      no, he has no personality.

He will be forgotten in a year or so assuming they get him soon.

Yes, that was a poor choice of words.

Nobody that I have talked to, has stopped doing the everyday things that might place one in harm's way.

But the one thing that does help is to just talk it over and over and over and over. Discussing the mechanics, similar locations ("Go to this gas station, no wooded areas, no easy access to highway"), estimating number of victims or time it will take to catch him(them) helps sooth some paranoia. Some of that didn't quite translate in that las PS statement.

        my apologies

Frankly, I suspect the "I am God' thing was not serious--he did it as another way to screw with the minds of possible profilers. He wants people to think he is a psychopath, but he isn't. He's a cold-blooded maniac, but not psychotic.

Yeah, but at least it virtually excludes an Islamic fundamentalist as the shooter. Since "militia" types tend to be Christian fundamentalists it pretty much excludes them too.

Let's get our terminology straight: the word "psychopath" is a layman's term, its use in psychiatry was abandoned more than 30 years ago. It was previously used to describe what we know call the antisocial personality, i.e., the cold-blooded hardened life long criminal who is not a gang member. The term was abandoned when the public adopted it as a generic term for anyone commiting an outragous crime. In some usages it seems to refer to a psychotic criminal, but there isn't a true consensus. Given the outragous nature of this man's crime it could be appropriate to refer to him as a psychopath. You have to admit, even if he isn't truely psychotic, he is one sick bastard.

I was in Maryland, and it was amazing how widepsread the terror seemed. High School Football games were canceled, as were most community outdoor events. Schoolchildren have not had outside recess for a while now. It seems as though this sniper has been more effective at spreading fear then Bin Laden ever was.

I think an earlier poster had an interesting point though. People in gang neighborhoods go through this everyday.

Really the odds of being killed are still so slim.

I certainly hope people learn to adapt. You cannot live your entire life indoors.

Wouldn't a smart sniper stop shooting when police have arrested someone, to make it seem the person police arrested was shooting?

If he's a serial killer, it means there is something in common with all the victims.

Apart from being outside you mean? Think the cops have looked at that, no relations, no race/sex/age thing. I think he (presumed male I gues) just goes out and gets in a nice position and then shoots the first (or the 5th or tenth) person he can get a clean shot on.

I found this awfully Ironic while watching CNN a week ago... They were talking about The horrible serial killer in a gloomy tone. Next Story, "It seems a cannibal is taking in the top spot at the box office....." all gleefully. Made me chuckle.

A week ago, I began to think to me self.

First victim of middle eastern decent. This told me it more than likely was carried out in a middle eastern neighborhood. I am no major in Criminal psychology, but, usually, I think, a serial killer will start in his own neighborhood.

Reports tonight came up it was an olive skinned man.

This is an unsophisticated terrorist attack.

It has no real backing by al quaeda, it is simply an angry man trying to kepp the terror of Sept. 11th alive.

Also, the I am god statement: It would have been Allah, but that would have given the police a good idea of what they are dealing with. Sniper too smart for that.

I think the "death" card was less important, and the depiction of the fourth Horseman on the card more important.

That, is my prediction. I will be on the McLaughlin group shortly......

Luckily, I am not a police officer giving a press hearing, so I can say such bold predictions.

Unless you're reading reports that I'm not, the sort of weapon he's using is exactly the last sort of thing to ever be targeted by gun control measures. What I'm talking about here is a single-action (probably bolt) long rifle.
What the people here, and in the media, seem to have missed is this simple fact. The same guns that are good for hunting big game are good for sniping...

Unfortunately, our media prefers to make hay about weapons that look scary. Some of us have realized this sort of thing for a long time now, which is why it's perfectly obvoius that the stated goals of the gun control movement are either flat out lies or are being made by ignoramuses.
