All judgements are based on personal beliefs. Even the belief that you have no beliefs is a belief. Thus, you cannot be ethnocentric.

Islamic fundamentalism has nothing to do with "demeaning" the faith and insulting the prophet. That might earn you a fatwa or ten to be killed, a la Salman Rushdie.

In the view of al Qutb, the real guiding force behind modern fundamentalist movements, the entire nature of western civilization (including touchy-feely do-your-own-thing liberalism) is an insult to Allah and Islam.

You think tolerance of gays is cool, and nice, and liberal and progressive? And that as long as you say nice things about Islam, their extremists will consider you any different? Yes we all have our personal beliefs. And we often make judgements, but if education has taught you anything is to see things in many angles.

I am getting tired of the "that's not really Islam" ****. Yes it is. Just as much as the Jerry Falwell's and the Torquemada's are really Christian. A religion is not defined by a particular (and happy liberal) subset of the religion, but by all the variations of it. Christianity is both a wonderful liberating force in people's lives, and a barbaric, murdereous force. Islam is the same. Judaism is the same. Hinduism is the same. And so on.

Bill Clinton is a christian. How bad was he? And yes being a christian means believing in certain fundaments (or dogmas). Thus every christian is a fundamentalist in some respect.

And look at the socalled Christian Western world? You find it worse than the Arab or muslim world?
