  • On Through The Night
    Def Leppard

The wait is done, the battle's won
So count the cost before you run
'Cos on and on your time was power
The clock on the wall ticks away the hours
Come on down, you're flyin' high
You'll never win if you never try
Stop the hate and carry the load
Come on, get this show on the road

    On through the night
    You can't stop me now
    On through the night
    You won't stop me anyhow

The stakes are high and gettin' higher
I'm flat on my face and you call me liar
I'm watching you, you're watching me
You're watching every move that I can see
    My reputation's still at stake
I play it safe for safety's sake
    Your ego and your promises
Are gonna fade again and again

    [Repeat Chorus]

    Not anyhow
    All you want to hear
    Is the audience applause
    You can't get on stage
    For a country clause
And the road ahead seems a little rough
If you want to know my feelings
    I say that's tough, that's tough
Your wheels ain't turnin', you're out of gas
You pay by check but they take cash
Two roads ahead but which to take
And you can't see it's your mistake

    They're waitin' for you
    They're waitin' for me
    And what seems like eternity
It's all tradition, it'll get you yet
In rock'n'roll there's no safety net

    [Repeat Chorus]

    On through the night
Goin' on and on, on and on
    On through the night
    You can't stop me anyhow
    Oh no no anyhow
Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.

    • Alone
      -EOS

Feel like your life is gone
feel like you're all alone and
no one gives a **** about you
Pain's what you feel right now
wait for what's gonna happen when you
call and no one's there for you
Can't tell you how to work it out
just know you're not the only one
      Hang on

      You look around and see
a lot of people but you
don't feel like they're there for you
Feel like you're all in chains
like you're locked up and someone
      swallowed the key
Can't help you find the hidden light
can only tell you try and fight
      Hang on

Hold on and believe in all those crazy friends
that you had when you were a kid
And believe when they tell you that
you're as special as someone can be

      Don't spend
      to much time wishing for
      what you do not have
      you should enjoy what
      you already have
      Life is not gonna
give you all that you want
      Stick with it it's just
      all you have

      Afraid to die alone
afraid to think and feel that
      no one will remember you
You try to live the day
you try to live the night
but you don't know what for
Can only feed you hope and peace
you try to find some love and ease
      Hang on

Hold on and believe in all those crazy friends
that you had when you were a kid
And believe when they tell you that
you're as special as someone can be

      Don't spend
      to much time wishing for
      what you do not have
      you should enjoy what
      you already have
      Life is not gonna
give you all that you want
      Stick with it it's just
      all you have

      • Tracy Chapman - Broken

        You can close your eyes
And see a picture perfect life
        Inside of your mind
Dreaming only of the days ahead
Wanted and wished for more than now
        Or the days behind
        You waste your time

        The picture makes a promise
The flesh lets it be broken
        The picture makes a promise
The flesh lets it be broken

        You can never think
        You can't even stop yourself
Before the words have been spoken
        And you've already said
        You would give everything
        And something for nothing
        Everybody thinks you're joking

        The picture makes a promise
The flesh lets it be broken
        The picture makes a promise
The flesh lets it be broken

You want to be the one
        Made over be your own
        Before and after
        And a supermarket
        Beauty in a bottle queen
        Who'll one day grace a check-out counter
        Magazine front cover
        Though the fine print reads

        The picture makes a promise
The flesh lets it be broken
        The picture makes a promise
The flesh lets it be broken

        Lets it be broken
        Broken
        Broken

When your life is never what you wanted
        Not even halfway normal
        Just tarnished and soiled
        When in your reach
        A framed and frozen moment
        So far from perfection
        Not truth or transcendence
        Will set you free
        Still you don't believe

        The picture makes a promise
The flesh lets it be broken
        The picture makes a promise
The flesh lets it be broken

          - Never Smile at a Crocodile

          Never smile at a crocodile
No, you can't get friendly with a crocodile
Don't be taken in by his welcome grin
He's imagining how well you'd fit within his skin
          Never smile at a crocodile
Never dip your hat and stop to talk awhile
Never run, walk away, say good-night, not good-day
Clear the aisle but never smile at Mister Crocodile
You may very well be well bred
Lots ot etiquette in your head
But there's always some special case, time or place
          To forget etiquette
          For instance:
          Never smile at a crocodile
No, you can't get friendly with a crocodile
Don't be taken in by his welcome grin
He's imagining how well you'd fit within his skin
          Never smile at a crocodile
Never dip your hat and stop to talk awhile
Never run, walk away, say good-night, not good-day
Clear the aisle but never smile at Mister Crocodile

            "Local Boy In The Photograph"

There's no mistake, I smell that smell
It's that time of year again, I can taste the air
The clocks go back, railway track
            Something blocks the line again
And the train runs late for the first time

A pebble beach, we're underneath, a pier that's just been painted red
Where I heard the news for the first time

And all the friends lay down the flowers
Sit on the banks and drink for hours
Talk of the way they saw him last
            Local boy in the photograph
            Today

He'll always be 23, yet the train runs on and on
Past the place they found his clothing

There's no mistake, I smell that smell
It's that time of year again, I can taste the air
The clocks go back, railway track
            Something blocks the line again
And the train runs late for the first time
            Today

And all the friends lay down the flowers

              Shawn Colvin

              Well, I don't tell jokes
              And I don't sing songs.
And you'll be sayin' there ain't much hope
              You've got nothin' on me.

              I got friends uptown,
              And they don't talk down.
Baby keeping me safe and sound.
              We got something, I think.

              I'm not gonna cry.
              And I'm wavin' goodbye.
              And I know this time
              You've got nothin' on me.

              • Tapestry
                - Carole King

My life has been a tapestry of rich and royal hue
An everlasting vision of the everchanging view
A wonderous woven magic in bits of blue and gold
A tapestry to feel and see, impossible to hold

Once amind the soft silver sadness in the sky
There came a man of fortune, a drifter passing by
He wore a torn and tattered cloth around his leathered hide
And a coat of many colors, yellow-green on either side

He moved with some uncertainty, as if he didn't know
Just what he was there for, or where he ought to go
Once he reached for something golden hanging from a tree
And his hand come down empty

Soon within my tapestry along the rutted road
He sat down on a river rock and turned into a toad
It seemed that he had fallen into someone's wicked spell
And I wept to see him suffer, tough I didn't know him well

As I watched in sorrow, there suddenly appeared
A figure gray and ghostly beneath a flowing beard
In times of deepest darkness, I've seen him dressed in black
Now my tapestry's unravelling; he's come to take me back
He's came to take me back

                  Rare Earth

                  (Chorus)
                  Hey big brother,
                  as soon as you arrive,
you better get in touch with the people, big brother,
and get them on your side, big brother,
                  and keep them satisfied.

Welcome to the beat of the city street,
walk on now and don't be shy.
Take a closer look at the people you meet,
and notice the fear in their eyes,
                  watching the time passing by.

                  (Chorus)

Focus your eye on the filthy sky,
just as far as you can see.
Everybody's gettin' kind of tired of waitin'
                  cos' nobody wants to cry,
                  and nobody wants to die.

                  (Chorus)

Now that you got the picture,
                  what you gonna do?
Now that you got the picture,
                  what you gonna do?
Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.

                  • Always the Winner - Runrig

When you close your eyes there's a frightened pride that lives for you
That your mother’s life and your father’s eyes can't hide
You had no choice didn't ask the dice too fall for you
Still your courage comes like thunder through the skies

Always the winner, the victor and the giver
Somewhere through that winter you'll never be alone
                    For evermore the winner
                    The taker and the giver
Somewhere through that winter you will not grow old

So you carry time down the tortured line where mysteries show
Well hidden from life’s learned and life’s wise
Mans useless ways and worthless conversation
Lie well exposed and humbled in your smile

                    (Chorus)

Still you run out in the morning with the boys and the girls
The miracle of innocence on a head of curls
We'll search every reason wherever we roam to find a place
For these broken hearts and bones

We'll keep a fire on the hillsides after the summers gone
And we'll wait here till the war-wounded come home
"Love the earth and sun and animals, despise riches, give alms to every one that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown . . . reexamine all you have been told at school or church or in any book, dismiss whatever insults your own soul, and your very flesh shall be a great poem and have the richest fluency" - Walt Whitman

                      BELIEVER

You're a young man now and
You toss the hair from your shoulders
                      Feeling strong and
All the young girls are coming on bolder
Back at home you know the old folks just get older
Why wait around when the world needs a leader.

Either you could be a believer
Either you might have a leader.

There's a light to your life and
Your eyes are glowing much brighter
There's a voice in the dark and
She whispers, "You gotta hold tighter"
Storm is lifted and your spirits are soaring much higher
It's a race to the end but the way seems to be clearing.

Either you could be a believer
Either you might have a leader
                      Oh Yeah.

There's a band in the streets
                      Gonna play "Homecoming Soldier"
                      Well back in D.C., man
The White House is shakin' us some
Cause the Senators fear that the young vote is gonna take over
                      (Watch it)
                      You're a young man now
He's got to toss the hair from his shoulder.

Either you could be a believer
Either you might have a leader
You're a young man now and you haven't got a lot to lose.

You came around now it don't matter when I'm home
I never think of it when it goes

Had to take a couple of days off work though. Can't risk to relapse to it. It feels SO good being able to eat and drink again - without feeling my throat being literally shred apart. (and not be half dead of course )

                              The Song Remembers When
                              (Hugh Prestwood)

I was standing at the counter
I was waiting for the change
When I heard that old familiar music start
It was like a lighted match
Had been tossed into my soul
It was like a dam had broken in my heart

                              After taking every detour
                              Getting lost and losing track
So that even if I wanted
I could not find my way back
                              After driving out the memory
Of the way things might have been
After I'd forgotten all about us
                              The song remembers when

We were rolling through the Rockies
We were up above the clouds
When a station out of Jackson played that song
And it seemed to fit the moment
And the moment seemed to freeze
When we turned the music up and sang along

And there was a God in Heaven
And the world made perfect sense
We were young and were in love
And we were easy to convince
We were headed straight for Eden
It was just around the bend
And though I have forgotten all about it
                              The song remembers when

I guess something must have happened
And we must have said goodbye
And my heart must have been broken
Though I can't recall just why
                              The song remembers when

Well, for all the miles between us
And for all the time that's passed
You would think I haven't gotten very far
And I hope my hasty heart
Will forgive me just this once....I love you..
If I stop to wonder how on Earth you are

But that's just a lot of water
                              Underneath a bridge I burned
And there's no use in backtracking
                              Around corners I have turned
Still I guess some things we bury
Are just bound to rise again
For even if the whole world has forgotten

                              The song remembers when
Yeah, and even if the whole world has forgotten
                              The song remembers when

                                You're In My Heart

I didn't know what day it was
when you walked into the room
                                I said hello unnoticed
                                You said goodbye too soon

                                Breezing through the clientele
spinning yarns that were so lyrical
I really must confess right here
                                the attraction was purely physical

I took all those habits of yours
that in the beginning were hard to accept
                                Your fashion sense, Beardsly prints
                                I put down to experience

The big bosomed lady with the Dutch accent
who tried to change my point of view
Her ad lib lines were well rehearsed
but my heart cried out for you

You're in my heart, you're in my soul
You'll be my breath should I grow old
You are my lover, you're my best friend
                                You're in my soul

My love for you is immeasurable
                                My respect for you immense
You're ageless, timeless, lace and fineness
                                You're beauty and elegance

                                You're a rhapsody, a comedy
                                You're a symphony and a play
You're every love song ever written
But honey what do you see in me

You're in my heart, you're in my soul
You'll be my breath should I grow old

                                You're in my soul

                                You're an essay in glamour

                                but you're every schoolboy's dream
You're Celtic, United, but baby I've decided
You're the best dream I've ever seen

And there have been many affairs
Many times I've thought to leave
But I bite my lip and turn around
'cause you're the warmest thing I've ever found

You're in my heart, you're in my soul
