I don't agree with Boris about using gel -- Gel looks too...shiny for the most part.
It's best to use hands + pomade or hands + hairwax.
I put the wax in it these days. You need VERY little of it, rub it around in your hands, rub it in your hair, and your hair will stay in the position you shape it in. And it doesn't have the fake look of gel or the greasiness of pomade. Lasts all day, too. Actually for the most part it lasts until you wash it out the next day.
