My god... NATO expanding East. If I didn't know better, you'd almost think the geopolitical situation had changed since its founding.

      this is the rule

the richer and advanced a country is, more against NATO it is, the poorer and backwards pro NATO

you can check that by comparing GDP of countries taken in and support in polls NATO membership has

Our neighbour, Slovenia, is most advanced of the mentioned countries. They do monthly polls to see peoples opinions on the issue, for a few years now. Remember, memebership has to pass ratification in the parliament(s)

The support is around 50%. Barely there.

and in Bulgaria it is , what 90%?

draw your own conclusions about what it takes to want to join NATO

Maybe Vagabond and Tassadar should team up.

I think many Middle Eastern countries will see NATO (if they don't already) as the tool of the "Western Satan". Another crusade, another infidel that must be repulsed.

your basing your arguement about all 7 countries on just the results of Slovenia? well, that and a guess about Romania. I got to say, your debating skills are the best here on apolyton

If they are almost in NATO themselves, than there is absolutely no point to join that organisation.
Don't worry, Sonic. Brace yourself up: Russia is far from being a full NATO member. It might well be that this is not even possible in principle.

                      though its same with Romania

its like this: poor countries want to be like the west, want to integrate and so on

so their governments sell them NATO membership as a great diplomatic achievement and a gateway to civilased world

ahem, memebership in a military alliance means being part of the developed world?

that is how they present it, and people buy it.

in fact, it simply means US gets another market for its two generations old weaponry

and just to mask the simple fact that its all about arms sales, NATO invented all sorts of political standards you need to become a member. The most important one is a developed democracy and civil control over military.

                            Take Turkey for example....

                            um, wait, dont

This is the economic foundation of NATO expansion.

In Lithuania support is about 60%, after very much of government's propaganda everywhere. First it was lowerer.
