He's responsible for his conduct, you're responsible for your conduct

You know god damn this is not true... he should be responsible but he's not... people should be but they're not... that whole thing in the sixties with the sex and drugs mixed in with an attitude of "Do what feels good" destroyed the whole idea of people being responsible for their actions.

And once this pattern starts, it's a slippery slope. Baby boomers are irresponsible and make it cool or right or whatever to be irresponsible so the next generation is irresponsible because they know nothing else (and suddenly there's sex and drugs everywhere) and so on. Eventually, there's a point where you can't truly blame someone for their wrongs without going back to the source that made the wrongs the right behaviour.

    thanks

Are you deliberately obtuse, or just stupid?

"responsible for his conduct" doesn't mean he is or isn't what you or anyone else thinks of as "responsible" or "irresponsible"

It means that he, and he alone, makes his choices, and has nobody else to blame.

Just like you have nobody else to blame for the **** you do, Mr. high and mighty "starve 'em all because it's that whole generation's fault my daddy don't wuv me."

You're just looking for an excuse to blame someone else, and the more vague, the better. The funny thing is you sound like your stereotypical meta-hippie creation blaming "the establishment."

Gee, internal consistency not your forte?

      thanks
You're welcome. Try being a better target, though. You're too easy.

        oh my god...

Stick a person into a bad environment... have him know nothing about how he's supposed to act. No one teaches him the right moral behaviour. His parents are broken up. His mom does drugs. His father is a deadbeat or in jail. Have this child go out into a world where nearly everybody has the same basic situation. Surround them with drugs and whatever the **** else. If this child does bad is he to blame?

I would blame the people who made this situation in the first place as the ultimate sinners (ie- the baby boomers)

I don't know any hippies who would advocate a father leaving his family "because it feels good."

"2) Make pre-marital sex common... they just couldn't control themselves and now we got single mother after single mother... fourteen year old fathers... children being beaten by their mothers because they look like their dead-beat fathers... "
Condoms in various forms have been around since Ancient Egypt, IIRC, in different organic forms… I believe that premarital sex and adultery has been a pretty common occurunce throughout history.

Yes. Society can give somebody the tools to turn themself into a rotten person, but it's ultimately the individual's choice and the individual's responsibility.

Of course you would, god forbid that somebody might actually be responsible for their own actions. Hell, before you know it, you might have to take responsibility for your actions! We can't have that, now can we? Blame the Man instead.

You're just a proponent of the very same entitlement mentality that you're projecting onto the baby boomers. If society doesn't hand you everything on a silver platter, then rather than grab the bull by the horns and actually do something to improve your situation you instead sit around and whine about how much you're being picked on. You focus so much on your own supposed rights and entitlements that you completely ignore your responsibilities.

About 99 % of the "baby boomers" I know take responsibility for their actions. Blame your father, not people who have done it right. Just because your father may be bad based on your claims, doesn't provide the proof that all our bad.

In every era there are people who don't except responsibility... And from listening to you whine about how it's not your fault, I'm sure you will probably be one of them in the current era

Stop trying to lay the blame else where. YOU are responsible for YOU. Be a real man and deal with your own situation. I've seen people from worse situations than you who have grown up to be successful... why can't you do the same?

Why will Boomers get Social Security? For one very simple reason, their kids don't want their parents to be poor and have to eat cat food. Any politician who votes against increasing SSN will be tossed out of office without delay.

The Boomers are not the most selfish generation that has ever existed. That label is always reserved for the youngest generation. Ten years ago it was Generation X, now it's Generation Y (lazy bastards can't even come up with an original name ).

Why don't the kids pay for their parents food then? Why do we need a massive, wasteful bureaucracy to do something that is much more easily done by individuals?

I'm not supporting Speer, BTW. Please don't get that idea...

I've spent the last 25 years paying social security taxes to keep my parents generation getting paid. I've put in more money then I will ever see back.

And guess what Albert... your turn is coming, and your social security taxes will be turned over to my generation... Get used to it... and if you're lucky, maybe there will be some money left in the system when you get to be that age...

Like they always have, baby boomers will get whatever they damn well want as long as they can shuffle down to a ballot box.

They are the largest bloc of voters in most Western countries.

We are already seeing much more benefits flowing to senior citizens and away from families and young people because of the voting power of boomers.

As an Xer, that has always annoyed me.

I think the sixties were crap

You mean that there isn't a Pepsi Generation?

Drake - I've paid for social security (well, whatever ~10,000 gross over 4 years would net me) so even if I don't make any more money in the US I'll still get an extremely small amount in Soc. Security. The problem is, in reality we're paying for the retiring generation's retirement pension, when all it would've taken is for the US government to wisely invest the money they were getting from the future benificiarys to make this a moot point. Don't forget, the Baby Boomers paid theirs, and supported their parents. The only generation we could blame this on would be the first one that retired after Soc. Security was started, but I doubt that there was less money coming into the system as there was going out to retirees.

Do you think that Social Security just came outta nowhere? That one day a beknigheted FDR said, you know, we really outta give something to the old folks? No, there was a serious problem, a huge percentage of the nation's elderly were living in severe poverty. Social Security is the most successful anti-poverty program the government has. Yeah, it would be nice if kids and grand kids took care of their parents and grandparents, but apparently they weren't.

Security in old age, after you've spent your life building and running the country and raising the future generations isn't that big a burden. Anyone who even thinks of doing away with Social Security is an evil, rotten, spoiled, selfish brat.

I just feel that Social Security is an unnecessary program that would be a minor inconvenience if if actually worked, but is a major problem for my generation due to the horrible mismanagement that has rendered it essentially broken.

I'd like to think that all the money I'm paying into SS would somehow be repayed to me at some later date, but I don't see that happening anymore and I'm a little pissed about that...
