Why are morons allowed to vote? And why do morons tend to be democrats?

To anyone who SERIOUSLY thinks that "idiots" should not be allowed to vote...

Yes, countries may well be better run under a "dictatorship of the intelligent" just as countries may be run better by a very intelligent dictator.

However, this does not make this the right way to run a nation.

A society, from which a nation arises, can be defined as a large number of individuals coming together to advance themselves to a greater extend than any of them could as an isolated unit.

In a modern liberal democracy, these individuals come together, in the most part, into a Rawlsian system whereby everyone can reasonably be expected to agree on the nations' principles of justice (if not their application)

Everyone of these people should have the right to vote to modify the way these principles are woven into the institutions of state.

This is how the state retains it's authority

I agree that so called "smart people" should not have the only say in how a country is run. But there are laws that prevent seriously mentally handicaped people from voting. If it was otherwise then those people could easily be coherced by the so called smart people. Who draws the line? Well it is the "smart people" of course.

As far as I know, the standard for voting is that you are able to comprehend the question being put to you and formulate a coherent reply.

In other words, it would take someone with an IQ <40 or so to be disqualified.

I'm only judging from what I have seen at Apolyton. Many people here consider people who like Britney Spears stupid. While some people who like her probably have an IQ around 100. While technically they aren't stupid, many people here at Apolyton do consider them dumb.

And by that margin I say there are more people with an IQ less than 100 than people with an IQ over 130.
