This is so frustrating. The max I can get out of 3DMark is 5,800. The Radeon 8500 with Athlon 1900 beats that

Something is seriously wrong with my system

Maybe your video card just isn't a good make... mine is a Gainward Geforce2 TI450 (64MB)... a very good performer...

Asus v8600. It's one of the best manufacturers.

Then why is it that my Geforce2 performs quite closely to your's?

I'm sure it's something to do with the ALi chipset - I've been looking through the 3DGuru forums and it seems to be a well known problem. Unfortunately the remedy means that I'm gonna have to use the 29.xx Detonator drivers, but it'll be worth it hopefully.

Damn it, people. I had hopes this was a thread about Matt submitting to Asher, and that there would be pictures.

This is why we don't buy ALi, right Matt?

The best Athlon chipset vendors are: Via, SiS, AMD, then ALi bringing up the rear.

The best chipset maker overall is Intel though, it's one of the main reasons I prefer Intel platforms.

Right got the benchmark up to 6900. Still a long, long way to go.

What'd you do? Update the chipset drivers?

You should also look at your AGP aperture settings, and check if you have fastwrites/sidebanding enabled.

Loaded dxdiag.exe and found out that AGP Texture Acceleration couldn't be turned on until I used the 29.xx drivers. Only problem now is I get booted to desktop or BSOD when I am running games/benchmark.

Well I've come up with a temporary solution. Took the fan off my old heatsink (7000rpm) and just placed it at an angle inside my computer so it pushes air through my heatsink. The Athlon now runs at 45-50C and the benchmarking doesn't crash (unless I put on the sideband fast-write options on)

My best score so far is 8000 I suppose that will have to do as I can't see any more solutions.
