Lung, while I'm not familiar with Australian beer (I've had Fosters, but am fully aware that Australians think it's piss... which it is), but you are too quick to put down American brewing. Throw out Bud, Coors, Miller, etc. That isn't beer, so it isn't worth discussing.

Unfortunately, like Fosters, those are the exports. My memory of businessmen buying "imported" Bud at happy hour in a London Pub still gives me the shivers. At 2.8% or 5%, it's still utter crap. But I digress...

I actually don't spend a lot of time sampling the various microbrews, since I'm the type who finds something he likes and tends to stick with it. A month or two ago I tried Sam Adams Light, and I haven't bought anything else since. I LOVE the stuff. I still love Newcastle, but I like it more in the winter because it's such a heavy brown ale. Sam Light is more of a summer beer.

Another great american brew you should be able to get your hands on pretty easily is Pete's. They have a huge selection of great beers that are just as good or better than Sam Adams. Pete's Wicked Ale is my favorite.

My favorite local brews here in NYC come from the Brooklyn brewery. Do you have any of those by you? Brooklyn Brown is probably their best.

Sam Adams Light isn't bad. Not worthy of the reactions it portrays on TV however

        Pete's Strawberry Blonde is terriffic.

            Cali,

I'm certainly familiar with Pete's, and I agree it's good. I actually tend to like the Pete's seasonals better than the plain 'ole Pete's Wicked Ale (summer brew in particular).

Sam Light isn't a "great" beer. I probably should have explained that. It's not gonna knock your socks off. But it is incredibly drinkable, it's light, and yet it's decent beer (as opposed to the bud/coors/miller crapola triumvirate). I don't like Amstel Light.

My issue with a lot of the microbrews (Magic Hat comes to mind) is that I don't like very "hoppy" beers (Longtrail Ale comes to mind as well). Hence my deep and abiding love of Brown Ales. I have found good micro browns, but I can't remember the names.

I've seen Brooklyn available at CT Beverage Mart, but I seem to recall trying it once at a bar and hating it... but I could be confusing it with something else. That's the trouble - too many to remember, and trying new ones kills more brain cells and makes remembering that much harder

I was trying to decide whether to get good old tried and true Newcastle or try something new. I went for the Sam Adams Summer Ale. I haven't tried it yet, because I was too tired after lugging all those groceries back home on the bike (I really wish I had a car).

Sam Summer is pretty good. Similar to Pete's Summer (though I prefer Pete's)... some lemon flavor, I believe.

You´re doing the enviroment a favor by taking the bike, besides think of the excercise you´re getting...

A beer that is nice to drink when it´s hot is Hooegarden, nice lemony lager fermented in the bottle. *yum*

AND ... riding a bike makes thirsty. For another beer. Yay!
Why doing it the easy way if it is possible to do it complicated?

I'm fat and out of shape. I want a car. Cars make it easier to get to the beach.

Me too. German beer and French (and self-made) food. I'm still a convinced biker. No excuse, please.

I´m also fat and out of shape, but I´m working on it. I have really nice legs, I thought I´d combine that with a really nice torso...

So far it´s not going terribly well though, I´ve only lost 2 kilos this summer (I´m down to 73 kilos) My goal is another 3 kilos at least. But it´s damn hard to excersise when there´s chips, beer and TV...

They do have some great seasonals. Pete's Octoberfest is one to look out for soon.

I only drink light beer when there is nothing else available, which isnt very often. When I say Amstel light is the best Ive had so far I actually mean its the only one ive had that didnt taste like soda-water with a vague hint of beer.

My issue with a lot of the microbrews (Magic Hat comes to mind) is that I don't like very "hoppy" beers (Longtrail Ale comes to mind as well). Hence my deep and abiding love of Brown Ales. I have found good micro browns, but I can't remember the names.
I dont usually go for the hoppy ones either. I like smooth tasty lagers in hot weather, and stouts and porters in cold.

Well it cant have been Brooklyn because I have never had a bad beer from them yet, so when you see Brooklyn just remember one thing...BUY IT!!!

Their lager is good, the Brown ale is great, the Pilsner is very good...probably the only one you wouldnt like is the India Pale Ale as it has quite a bite to it. I doubt you would have had that on tap though.

Will do. I'm always on the look out for another good brown ale.

I've never been much of a light beer drinker either... but I've developed quite a beer gut. Like I said, though, Sam Light is the only light beer I like, and to be fair it isn't really all that "light." It's just lighter than regular Sam.
