This is truly sad. I've read about this abduction in the paper. I hope they are found alive and well.

The police seem to have solid proof that the girls are alive (not that they can tell us, of course) - the police officer in charge of the investigation made a direct appeal to the kidnapper today, from what he said it seemed pretty clear that they had some contact with the kidnapper recently, but don't know where he is.

child abduction is always sad. If they are still alive, it would be great. But in the US, at least, these cases rarely turn out good. The bodies of the children are usually found with evidence of sexual abuse. The kidnapper(s) are then usually found, but it is impossible for them to take back what horrible deeds they have done. In the US, though, we have the death penalty, which is a fitting end to such sick bastards - though sometimes they only get life in prison.

with each day that passes it becomes less likely that they will be found alive.
there was a similar case involving a little girl last year. she was killed.

death is too good for these bastards.

Kramerman is right, it is unlikely they are alive, precendent has shown us that the results of scenarios like this are generally worst case. It will probably be some paedophile who has taken then, abused them and killed them for his own pleasure, to give him a feeling of power. Must be a sad lowlife indeed...

Since they've been missing for ten days the likelihood that they're alive is really very small, unless they were from a broken family, which offers the hope that they were taken by the non-custodial parent. Were they from a wealthy family? If so perhaps they were taken for ransom, but frankly since the end of the Warsaw Pact kidnapping for profit has become very rare.

No. It's not a custody or ransom thing I'm afraid.

The first guess in these cases would usually be to suspect the parents, but because the girls escaped from their house and were later caught on CCTV camera's at the local leisure centre it seems they ran off for some reason and were kidnapped.

To arrest them for murder suggests the police have evidence that the children are now dead.

I know, that is why a prior post of mine expected the children to be dead.

There was still the possibility they were locked up in some basement though.

French prisons are particularly notorious. The Nordic countries are probably the only ones with better standards than the US. The difference is that they don't imprison people on the same scale as the US does (rates are 3-4(?) times higher)...
