ss thinks he did the right thing. maybe he did, the evidence is still somewhat contradictory. but it's not like his son, precious kid that he is, will ever know the difference. parents want to do the right things for their children, and if they make mistakes, so be it. nobody's the perfect parent.
asher obviously believes that the evidence is there to disprove and reason for circumcision. good for him. and so he's advising someone to his beliefs on whether it's needed or justified.

Circumcision wasn't common among Christians in the 19th century. It became prevalent in the US during the 20th century when in-hospital birthing became dominant since medical recommendation favored circumcision.
