Yeah what is so funny is that even if these Jews and Russians had guns, they still would have been rounded up. They might have killed one or two soldiers but in the end the same end result. Thanks for this great piece of PR trolling.

I have no strong opinion either for or against banning firearms, but I do hate stupid arguments.
Incedentally, noting all of the genocidal dictatorships that rounded up guns is also a stupid argument if it is meant to imply that any government that inacts gun control will behave just as brutally, which is clearly untrue. But it is not so stupid if it is mearly intended to point out that giving up weapons puts people at the mercy of the government. This seems to me a valid point.

I think everyone should be required to take gun training and carry at least one handgun at all times. If they are discovered unarmed, death penalty.
Seriously, though, people have the right to arm themselves. To defend against any threat that should come about. When you say that only the armed forces should have guns, remember that the Federal Government controls the military. If we can't trust these people, why give them undue power? The government's place is to protect the people, not control them.
Just a little thought: If you are willing to kill someone and risk going to prison for the rest of your life, or even being excecuted, will you give a crap about the possibility of a few months in jail for owning an illegal weapon?
That said, I believe people should be required to acquire and renew a liscence for the type of firearm they possess. This should be renewed annually with a safety and accuracy test, as well as a nominal fee. It would be similar to a driving liscense. If said person commits any personal crime, their liscense would be permanently revoked.

Yes, guns kill people. Gun control is absolutely wonderful. Why don't you take it a step further? Alcohol can cause drunkeness. Drunk drivers kill. Stop, we need Alcohol Control. MANDATORY drinking lessons, so you know when to say when, as well as how to legally transport your alcohol, etc.
We had that Ford Explorer rollover bit a while ago. We need SUV Control. In fact, driving alone can cause death. We need complete Motor Vehicle Control.
Let's not stop there, though. Smoking can kill. We need Cigarette Control - maybe even take smoking lessons, like the aforementioned drinking lessons. A six week course on the effects of smoking? Required license that allows you to buy smokes?
And MONEY! Money is the root of all evil, as they say. Greed can cause people to do irrational things - murders, blackmail, threats, the list goes on. We need absolute Monetary Control, lest a greedy person murders someone over money.
Actually, wealth in general can result in murders and thefts. We'll just pull those wealthy persons down and force everyone to be equal. Hm, better yet, we'll require EVERYONE to take a seminar on money, the ill effects of it, and how you should make sure you don't succeed any more than the guy next to you, lest he become envious of you're BMW and 3-car garage, and decide to get in on some of your money - maybe a kidnapping, in which the child might be murdered? Or a wife, who has taken an interest in her rich husbands life insurance policy?
Gun control takes guns out of the hands of law-abiding citizens, and leaves a defenseless population for criminals. Murder is already illegal, no matter what you use. What would have happened if the British had enacted a gun control law in the 1700s? Well, besides hunting, they would not have been able to rebel and establish the U.S.A.
During World War II, American citizens gave their guns to the British, so that the citizens would be armed against an Axis invasion.
Guns don't kill people. Straws don't get people addicted to caffeine - it's the Coca Cola. Forks don't make people fat - it's the cake they are eating that has the calories. And besides, guns are not the only instrument used in murders - knives, hammers, piano wires, ropes, electrical cords, chairs, and bare hands - ANYTHING can be used to commit a murder.
Don't go after guns, or the law abiding citizens who own firearms. Just enforce the laws already there, instead of seeking to solve the problem with legislature.

If the hated English were threatning to take away their hard won freedoms i could understand keeping the constitutional bit about guns, but as the USA has the most powerful armed forces the world has ever seen i don't really see the point.Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.

You know what's funny about the "law abiding gun owners" argument? When new weapon bans are discussed, many of them make a point of not turning in their guns should the ban become reality.
Law abiding citizens indeed..."On this ship you'll refer to me as idiot, not you captain!"

Most guns in the U.S. are not designed to kill human beings, but for hunting and target shooting. They are interestingly unprotected by the second amendment to the extent that they are not convertable to military use.
Whether one is killed by an accident, poor diet or lifestyle choice, or by a gun wielding assailant is not all that important after the fact. For my part, I was able to drive off a knife wielding assailant by pretending to pull a gun on him as he approached, something that would have been a good deal less likely to have succeeded in Europe. So for my part guns have had a positive effect on my safety. He's got the Midas touch.
