How do you figure that? Surely the hypothetical women who marry serial killers to get a greenie are less wacky than those who do so for purely, eh, emotional reasons?

Either reason would be enough for me to consider them wacky, but you're right, I would consider them less wacky.

Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.

And less wacky than the hostages 'victims' of the Stockolm syndrome? or more?

In 2001 the UK was last of the 5 big member states though....
I must be misreading, but according to the stats, the UK had more net immigration than France.

I just wasn't sure if you were refering to a different figure.

I wonder if the figures would change if the Sangatte Red Cross base were closed.

British media would have you believe so.

"While US emigration data is notoriously sketchy"

If you follow el freako's assumption that the extra 8-10 million found in the census came during the last decade, then it would be foolish to place even the word "sketchy" there. More like "we don't have any clue, but it's a whole lot".
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891
