You see, if the greenhouse effect really takes its toll and the Finnish climate will be like what they now have in Central (Germany, France) or even Southern (Italy, Greece, Spain) Europe, there could be one positive aspect in it: we could grow perennials and plants that we only dream about now.

But since there will be no more light in Finland during the dark winter months, can these plants grow? During the lovely Northern summer there is lots and lots of light all day and night, but the plants cannot hoard up light, can they?

            Damn thoughtful question, Wilderess.

I look forward to Hydey's response. My guess would be that temp and light are equally important in their own way. A plant without sufficient sunlight - that requires it - would be buggered, I'd've thought.

              Isn't that called photosynthesis?
More on-topic - How large a factor does the increased level of charged particle radiation (your aurora borealis) play in Finnish agriculture? It is the Northernmost nation, hence should feel more of an effect due to its proximity to the magnetic pole.
(ie: Can you read by the light emanating from your radioactive plants in those dark winter months? )

I guess my dead Aza, er, Azla, erm, ... potplants, can bear mute testimony to this.

I'm afraid to say that sunlight is very important although some plants will be better off with the increase in temperature most will require more light as well to flourish. That light could be generated artificially which might enable you to grow the plants you desire.

Mmmmm. I'm having trouble with my pea crop this year. Soil's right, situation's right, but I've planted several batches over a period of weeks and only one has germinated. Must be a dud batch of seeds.

                        • On to serious matters: Beer.

How many should you have in a day ? I'm not talking about a maximum here but a minimum. What is the absolute minimum daily intake needed to stay alive? What are the effects of short ad long term beer depravation ? What are the first symptoms that you may be lacking beer ?
                          What?
