Black Saturday was basically an exercise in the OT collectively acting as lemmings. You know, those little furry creatures who jump off cliffs because they just can't resist it.
Ming posted a thread with a message that he wanted people to see. I don't even remember what the message was, but it was pertaining to a controversy involving several posters on the board.
Ming didn't lock the thread (crucial point), but included in his message a warning that anybody who posted to the thread would be taken outside and shot. I mean banned. He didn't want any more crap about that particular controversy.
Ming then went to play some golf as he always did on Saturdays, and when he came home from golfing, he took a good long nap on the couch.
In the meantime, one poster (I don't remember who, possibly Lancer) took a deep breath and posted a "cute" response to the thread. The first lemming had taken that big step forward, and one by one all the others followed suit. People were after all quite aggravated over this controversy, which I still for the life of me can't remember.
It wasn't until late in the evening, Ming Standard Time, that our beloved moderator returned, banning rod ready for all eventualities - and boy did that rod glow in the dark hours of that night.
All the people Ming listed above were banned; most of us for only 1-3 days, but still. And Ming had a lot of explaining to do afterwards.
In the end it all got cleared up, as both sides of the battle admitted they had shown misjudgement, diplomatically speaking. And the powers that governed the lemmings' destiny had, after all, shown leniency when administering punishment.
Below the cliff among the rubble, and in the hearts of many a veteran OT'er, you can still find traces of this, undisputedly, the greatest atrocity ever to have occured on Apolyton.
Or did I dream it.

I have to correct you on this.
Indeed there were about 3 posters who replied.
The first asked a question about the topic Ming posted, and two others told him in a cute way that he shouldn't reply in this thread.
Then Ming returned (or was it Markos ?) and he banned all 3 of them.
I was the first to complain about that, and to say that it was a big of over reacting. I got banned to.
Then people started to complain all together about the mod-behavior.
Everybody did it, to protest, in the same thread.
All got banned.
I think it was Markos who banned everybody, Ming only returned to find out that his thread turned into one big graveyard.Formerly known as "CyberShy"

Very close Winston... but a little off.
(But then again, my memory could be off too)
I also don't remember the original subject matter, but it wasn't about any specific posters, it was about some new OTF policy.
It was originally posted late afternoon on a Friday. A few people (I think Matt was one of them) posted in it right away... I then suspended them for 24 hours as a warning I was serious) I then started the normal Friday night games session at my house, got trashed, and never bothered to check in again. And THEN I went to play golf VERY EARLY Saturday Morning, got trashed, came home, and crashed without checking in. During the period when I was passed out, MarkG saw the thread and took action. Needless to say, when I woke up late in the afternoon and saw what had happened...
The actual list of punishments came out on Sunday... hence why my archived files on the subject are named Black Sunday. The actual thread announcing the bans was also titled "Black Sunday"Keep on Civin'

I was one of the first who got banned out of posting a banned prank
even funnier: the ones who started posting there knew they'd get banned, and also knew that many would follow. they're acolytes, CGB and JETW. funny as hell, given how they made everyone die

I disagree Ming,
it's defentily the true that everybody named it Black Saturday right away.
Pherhaps you're refering to 'Silent Sunday' because most of the die-hard posters at the OTF were banned. (Only weanies like horse weren't involved, because they prefered spamming their pc up above justice and rightiousness.) (those were the days that OT gave pc)Formerly known as "CyberShy"
