  • Change of Pace! PS2, XBOX or GC?

I would like to be really off-topic here, especially with all the recent heated discussions.

I am thinking of buying a new console but I am not sure which one! What are your experiences? what would you recommend?

    Thanks for your input?!

    X-Box hand down...

    GameCube is good for kids.
PS2 is good for a large selction of games.

X-Box is good for best hardware, graphics, size of games, hard drive, and up coming internet use.

Either the GC or XBox would be a good buy. However, the GC is cheaper and has a pretty good stable of games. It all depends on what your budget is.

I'd say it depends what games you want to play.

As Juggernaught said. Totally depends on what games you want. Go to any big gaming site, and it shouldn't be too hard to tell which games are the big sellers for each console.

With my taste in gaming, I'll get a PS2, eventually. But it all depends.

What games have you enjoyed before? This might be a good indication...

man with prices the way they are now you would be a fool not to buy a PS2 or X-Box.

Isn't it only 50 dollars more for a PS2 or X-Box over a game cube?

              1) The PS2 isn't up to the GameCube in terms of hardware or graphics.

              2) The GameCube is cheaper than the Xbox.

You're still getting the better deal with the Xbox...

For the Gamecube it's $149US, plus $20US for a 512KB memory card (basically required). Plus it doesn't come with a built in ethernet and harddrive, so it's overall cost will be well above the Xbox's $199 if you get either or both.

But it is about the games...

I've got an Xbox and PS2. I definitely like the Xbox way better than the PS2. It's simply better in every possible way, by a good margin, hardware-wise. I'm also liking the present and upcoming Xbox game library compared to the PS2.

But if you're heavily into the Japanese-style RPGs (Final Fantasy), you'll definitely want to get a PS2. Other than that I see no reason to... (Xbox is getting a FF-esque RPG made by some Japanese developer called Crimson Sea, which graphically puts FFX to shame, but I never cared for those games).

Gamecube...I'm not so sure about. People keep telling me to wait for the blockbuster Nintendo games, and then those games kept getting pushed farther back. I'm probably going to get one for the sake of completeness once they drop to $99 US whenever that is.

BTW, now that we've got real figures on consoles bought by consumers (rather than Nintendo's "sold to retailers" stuff they always pull in their press releases), the Xbox is up by nearly half a million (436,000) consoles in North America. Of course, PS2 continually outsells them both for whatever reason. But the gap has been steadily closing between Xbox and PS2, and rising between Xbox and GC...

                  In May:
                  PS2 -- 510,000
                  XBX -- 216,000
                  GCN -- 111,000

Cumulative total as of May, 2002
                  PS2 -- 9,200,000
                  XBX -- 2,118,000
                  GCN -- 1,682,000
                  AGB -- 6,500,000

                  Current software/hardware ratios:
                  PS2 -- 5.1 : 1
                  XBX -- 4.2 : 1
                  GCN -- 3.6 : 1

Not bad for a more expensive console, no?

Well budget on the console itself is not much of a concern really. I mean $50 more or less it's not a whole lot. As for my the games I like: Lets's see I have a N64 before and a PS1 I liked both of them. Some games with the one and some on the other. That's what's troubling me?!?!? I would like to play Medal of Honor (PS2), then Morrowind and Battlefield 1942 (XBox) and I also like the "child" games of the game cube. I am not all that fond of ego shooters or japanese rpg. Although, I love good old AD&D based rpg?! The more I think of it and the more I look around it seems to me that a Solomondian solution, i.e. buy two at least will be the best one, but then it will start to get expensive! Especially with all the accesories I would need!

Don't bother with Medal of Honor: Frontline for PS2. It's total crap, a very poor cut down version of Medal of Honor: Allied Assault for the PC. Frontline is also coming in a slightly upgraded version for Xbox in a couple months if you still want it, though.

I love good old AD&D based rpg?!
You'd probably like the upcoming "Dungeons & Dragons Heroes" game on Xbox, then.

I'm starting to get tired of people saying that the GC is all kid games.

X-Box seems too much like a glorified PC to me. My recommendation is Gamecube, but then again I've always been a huge Nintendo fan.

By that same logic the Gamecube is a glorified Mac...so don't go there...

Na, it's more that I would be way more comfortable with my kids playing games on the Cube, as opposed to the XBox. Very few cartoony games on the Xbox. Even the ones they have (on the Xbox), still seem maturish. eg: Crash Bandicoot
