Actually IDF recently said that they couldn't prove it's legitimacy and there are reportely unexplained dark spots on the picture... however it does appear as simply a black background to me. Some reporters are stoopeed.

          I'm ooooooooohhh so very content.

          Why?

Because the Palestinian officials have proven themselves to be liars.

          Official palestinian response:
Palestinian officials dismissed it as a propaganda trick.

"This is cheap Israeli propaganda. They are using this photo to justify Israeli crimes against the Palestinian people and to go on with their occupation of the Palestinian territories," Information Minister Yasser Abed Rabbo said.

"These photos can easily be forged and distributed, and this has been done by the Israeli media several times before."

          source: reuters

But the truth is that the picture is real:

The Palestinian family who photographed their baby dressed up as a suicide bomber has told Sky News it was a joke.

The Israeli Defence Forces found the photo during a search of a Palestinian militant's home in Hebron. The child was pictured wearing a belt of fake explosives and bullets.

But the family told Sky's Andrew Wilson the picture was "just a joke".

"The photograph was taken some time ago at a party when someone dressed up the cutest baby as a suicide bomber," one relative said.

The picture went around the world and became a symbol of despair for all those who want peace in the Middle East.

          source: sky news

          Some more from reuters:

Ordinary Palestinians said if the photograph were genuine it was likely the child had been dressed up for fun and did not mean Palestinians were about to use children in suicide bombings -- something they have never done.

Children have been seen dressed up as suicide bombers at school ceremonies and rallies supporting militants spearheading a 21-month-old uprising against Israeli occupation.

no they didn't, they never said the photograph was a fake

They said the photo is being used for Isreali propaganda, and that seems true to me, especially since the family said it was a joke, and did not intend to sent the kid out on a Isreali bus or something

How many children get dressed up as soldiers? Lots. What's the difference?

I was dressed up in an army uniform and had my picture taken when I was a little kid. I should scan it. I'll find it later tonight and post it.

How many children get dressed up as Manson, Dhamer, etc.? There is a slight difference between a soldier and a terrorist.

                                Hmm...

                                1) they say it's cheap israeli propoganda
                                2) they say it's easy to fake
                                3) they say israelis faked pictures before
conclusion: they say israelis easily faked this as part of their propoganda.

They said the photo is being used for Isreali propaganda, and that seems true to me, especially since the family said it was a joke, and did not intend to sent the kid out on a Isreali bus or something

                                1. The family didn't come in contact with the soldiers. They found it while searching the house and released it to the press. In Israeli press IDF posted retractions, saying it couldn't verify this being real and can't determine it's source

                                2. the 'joke' really does show something about the palestinian mood and intentions.
