I believe Mary Hartman Mary Hartman preceeded or was concurrent with soap not after.

Here's a great but unknown show from the 70's, "Fernwood Tonight" which became "America Tonight" with Martin Mull and Fred Willard. Very funny but the satire was a bit much for the average "3's Company" TV viewer.

The Thanksgiving episode is one of TV's all-time funniest episodes:

AH, drew carry, Alf, and All stays in the family.

              how could I forget those?

Kropo - Suddenly Suzan was suddenly funny and suddenly not.

Nanny and Just shoot me is infact much funnier and more witty than, say, friends.

To be fair, I wouldn't classify Seinfeld as a sitcom. Sitcoms imply that there are "situations". Seinfeld, being about nothing, doesn't have any, or at least not conventional ones. Instead, it's driven by characters' reactions to the most trivial matters. It's true character interaction based comedy, not a Sitcom.

OK, just to get this straight. All and everyone that voted for any and all of "Nanny", "Suddenly Susan" or "Just shoot me" should be taken to concentration camps this very instant!
I can understand hatred for Nanny and Suddenly Susan, but Just Shoot Me? It's hilarious! Hilarious, I tell you!

                          Let's see:

Nanny: Never really watched it, but looked like crap
                          JSM: Great
                          Suddenly Susan: ...nah.
Married With Children: Bit hit-and-miss, but still quite good
                          Soap: Great
                          Friends: Good
                          Spin City: Good
Dharma & Greg: In the long run, Dharma was incredibly annoying
                          Frasier: Excellent
Cheers!: Never in Finland (or as far as I can remember)
                          I Love Lucy: ...nnnah
Happy Days: I don't remember much about it - they showed it in Finland when I was still a little boy
                          Beverly Hillbillies: Never in Finland
                          Three Stooges: Never in Finland
                          That 70s Show: Excellent
                          Other: Err...

                              Yes.

But the show should really be called Niles. All the people I know think he brings home most of the episodes. He just cracks me up.

Yeah, Niles is hilarious... I can't stand to watch the episodes where they do something embarassing/painful.
