  • Donn learnat's hoit a amoi gscheit red'n, es Woipatinga!

    "Appears pretty progressive."

It was. Unfortunately the constitutionalists lacked a Bismarck.

"What is the Austrian constitution of today based on? IS it the same as in the time from 19-38?"

The key document is still that from 1920 (which was overthrown in 1933/34 and reinstated in1945). Lots of amendments though.

We still have the bill of rights from 1867 in it, though.

    • So I can assume the Austrian constitution of 1920 had important points that were missing in the Weimar one? Or does your constitution of today have the same flaws as ours had back then?

(such as lack of power partition and all)

Well the President was/is much weaker, and we had a constitutional court in 1920 already. Still in 1933/34 it didn't protect us against the Dollfuß coup.

I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Ah, so Austria was ahead of Germany in that time. Good for you, if not good enough though

In 1934 we got a "ständische Verfassung" and the catholicism as state religion. :würrrg:

                        • Here's the Siberia journal that they did last year. Sometimes the pics are screwed up, so you might have to press Ctrl-R on some of them. Lots of really good articles and amazing pics.

I laughed a long time when hearing about Surgut's "Five Minutes of America".

Why doesn't Russia build a freeway/autobahn system? Guaranteed to raise the standard of living in the hinterlands substantially.

You know I could correct you and say that I have a Bavarian last name.
