  • The Gitmo crew were caught "in the act", a lot different then grabbing a bunch of "students" on a suspicion.

Like I said, they know how we operate, and used it.

It's interesting that the finger pointing started with Miss Hillary, the queen who would be king, don't ya think?

    • You can't use "Queen that would be King".
My understanding is that Red Jon has that patented for his signature line.

      • I agree with Vel that investigation shouldn't be squelched by the administration. Then again, the investigation is likely... no, check that, is SURE to become a political witchhunt - both parties try to discredit the other in the hope of gaining votes.

I'm sure mistakes were made. Clearly, given the magnitude of what occurred. However, a lot of that has to do with a general feeling of safety, like Chris said. Now we know better. I definitely think procedures need to change within the FBI/CIA/NSA/whatever, specifically with respect to information sharing between the agencies. Isn't that Tom Ridge's job? That was the idea behind the creation of his post - coordinate the various governmental agencies into a more coherent and effective defense.

I say we investigate what went on leading up to 9/11, but attempt to do so without recriminations. Frankly, there's no point in doing that. What we need to do is figure out what our mistakes were so that we can be better prepared from now on.

Untill 9/11 they were guilty of getting flying lessons.

The planes need to have some form of defense, stun guns sounds like a good non-lethal method.

Again, you can't just arrest people and question them unless they did something.
          Our own Constitution prohibits this.

Could Bush have given such an order BEFORE the first plane hit the WTC?
It had never been done before (suicide hijacked airliner), suppose that wasn't the plan and Bush ordered an airforce plane to kill a plane load of US hostages.
          He would have been lynched.

          Your speaking with 20/20 hindsight.
Perhaps they could have put these people under survalence, but the desire to commit a terrorist act isn't against the law, commiting or attempting to commit it is a crime.
There are very tricky leagal questions involved that I'm not qualified to answer in reguards to this.
Bush could not have put the Air Force on high alert with the knowledge that the CIA possessed??
And there is no other way to intercept an airliner other than blowing it up??

Oh, and thank you for not trolling me, and giving me a good response.

          • I can't think of a single way to bring an aircraft down that doesn't want to come down, short of shooting it down.

            • Airforce alert? Even with a 15 minute window that isnt enough time to scramble an F-16 and fly to intercept it. However, there were F15's ready to shoot down the 4th plane, and they were almost in the air to intercept the pentagon attack.

Just because of that tragedy it does not mean people should change their political perspectives. I mean it was awful but its been so overused it means nothing anymore.
                Wow! This was let slide?

I guess it shouldn't be a surprise. I mean there are people who don't believe that the Holocaust happened. It took about fifty years to forget and there were millions of people killed. So I guess it's ok to start ignoring how a few thousand Americans were killed less than a year since it happened. They were just Americans afterall.

I'm sorry, but this is the most mean-spirited and insensitive remark that I've seen on these forums. This is a perfect example of Cal's argument. And saying it is horrible, but looking the otherway. . .simply shameful.

I totally agree. Redjon needs to be a lot more sensitive when talking about 9/11
