It's supreme boredom for me, and I have a problem only doing one thing at once.

Aaaaaaargh! All you can do is harp on your "rules" and your boring stuff! Back in CTP days things were exciting! Things actually interested people! People had an off topic chat that had a slightly more serious tone, and they had a slightly goofier one. I think these forums were better that way, and I think the damage has been irreversible.
