Will gay pride events change the minds of anti-gay bigots? I doubt it. It all seems rather silly to me, but if they have fun then...whatever.

That is not the point of them. It is to show gays who hear such filth from haters that there is no reason to ashamed or afraid to be who they are. There are many out there who share their experiences, know what they have to deal with and will be there to support them. It's an affirmation that gay people are just as worthy and human as anyone, and the bigots are wrong.

I think most people are accepting of Gays nowdays...do gays still feel that bad about themselves?

There is still widespread hatred and homophobia. A majority do support gay rights, but a large minority are still vocally hateful. It was only a couple a years ago that Matthew Sheppard was beaten to death, remember.

Gay pride events are unnecessary in this day and age of tolerance.

No. That's the point; you know, gay PRIDE.

I thought you were done trolling?

I don't actually what's to be so proud of.

You shouldn't rest your self-esteem (pride) on something outside of your control (sexuality).

They're fun. It's a grim world, and we need all the fun we can get. More power to their oiled and muscular elbows.

Sorry Stew, but "Gay Not-Ashamed-Of-What-We-Can't-Control Week" wouldn't fit on the banner.

Nor does it. However, one's self-esteem is based on all facets of one's life and actions, and being gay is certainly an important facet of someone's life. It has a profound impact on one's life.

Celebrating gay pride is not akin to saying one's sexuality is all that matters. It is simply showing we're not ashamed of that aspect of our lives and, in fact, celebrate it in fun ways with friends and family and supporters.

It may not be as colorful or fun as them thar Bible Revival meetings, but it is just as important for those who participate.

If Boddington wishes to troll gays, I would like him to create a separate thread for that purpose.

This thread is the positive affirmation of heterosexuals, homosexuals, and bisexuals.

Thank you Ming for reprimanding Boddington -- I was sorely mistakened about your policy.
