True, but their habitat is well below the surface, hence the lack of a dense atmosphere and an intense Van-Allen belt would not be nearly as important.

Mars will never have an atmosphere like ours PH. Not unless we crashed its moons into it or something...

But this will allow 'tin cans, domes, and bunkers' type towns to built, since this means we can have wells, of a sort.

On the Mars sovereignty issue: On another thread we dicussed the Outer Space Treaty. Article II forbids all claims to sovereignty in Outer Space. The US apparently ratified this treaty.

On the Martian bug issue, all I can think of is the fate of the Native Americans to the arrival of the Spanish. They nearly all died due to smallpox and other diseases. The same could happen to anyone sent to Mars, or to Earth on their return. I suspect that anyone who returned may be put under permanent quarantine.

Well, than. If the Canadians value that coastline and its attendent claim on the oceans, why did they kill their nuke sub program in the 80's (they were gonna build/buy some.)

Besides...some of that coastline is pretty crappy coastline. Not "blue water". (i.e. not coastline in the winter...)

Don't want nuke subs. Too expensive.

Martian snow cones sounds good right about now.

                  Rust flavored is my favorite.

                        Patrol for what? The Chinese?

Our biggest naval problem is illegal fishing, and we don't need nuke subs for that, unless they've started arming trawlers....

Arming trawlers.... the French did in the sixties or early 70's in the waters around St Pierre and Michelon (sp?).

                            Just teasing you, Kitty...

It really was a slip about US oceans. I don't think that way. Not like you coastline aggressors.

Bastards. We should take those back. We occupied them as soon as France surrendered in 1941. I don't know why we left...

I cant recall the details, but I was told that it came as a bit of a shock to the Navy ships that came in contact with them.
