First off, imprisonment is an effective way to disfranchise minority voters.

Secondly, look at all the societal factors that contribute to a poor environment in which these minority race criminals lived in. Does this mean they are not responsible for their own actions?

No, they are still responsible for any crime they committed. But we need to look at the societal factors along with the individual factor.

Thirdly, segregation in any public facility is inherently unequal. There is never a justification for officiallly legislated segregation.


One more thing -- there are gay inmates who are gang raped, and when they report their being victimized, there were some instances where the jail officers would simply tell them to enjoy it and refuse to protect them from the rapists.

Gang rapes is not exclusively done between different race members, since it also happens between members of the same race.

Did you click on the link? Whites are specifically targeted by Blacks and Hispanics, so segregation would reduce rape. That is a good motivation for segregation.

Segregation is never the answer to anything.

One good point I saw, people are way to flippant about rape, you can see it in some of the answers.

Nobody makes you commit crimes, the argument about upbringing and environment is an excuse for anti-social behavior, even psycologists disagree on whether environment is a factor in criminal behavior.

Back to the thread, Cal, stop attacking like a twit, the real problem is the penal system is not doing it's job.
It does little to protect prisoners from other prisoners, and reform is needed.

Rape isn't a joke, whether it's of women, or men.

It seems we all have been yelling an awful lot lately, maybe we all need to calm down a tad.

As far as many black communities go, as well as young white people as well, there seems to be a growing culture of violence.

When I was young, ML King Jr was preaching equality, and many Blacks were freeing themselves of Jim Crow, and young whites were going for a generation of love, they had had enough of the old ways.

In the 1970s, strides were made, wars ended, things looked better, black and white seemed to be moving together ( I can remember busing to end segregation in my school days, all the way to high school), it seemed like the end to racial division was nigh.

Then came the 80s, and things changed in outlook.
Kids were more concerned with themselves, drugs went from an average problem to an epidemic, prison populations went through the roof, and in culture blacks and whites started to again seperate as hip-hop began.

The 90s brought forth generation X, heavily disillusioned, as typified by the grunge movement and extreme violence in hip-hop (you should listen to the early hip-hop, it has a positive message, the 90s that message began a glorifacation of crime, violence towards women, blaming whitey for everything) with it's "gangsta" culture.
Racial inequality was visible in the killing of blacks by whites in Howard beach NY, the Rodney King case, and others.

The end result of all of all of this is that blacks and whites seem further apart then ever.
The prisons are full of anti-social msythanthropes, and they are preditors by nature, reform is needed.
