I remember the time on my GCSE English mock that I accused Paul Theroux of lying when he said he didn't go into a gypsy camp in London because he resisted the temptation to travel within his own country. I pointed out, in no uncertain terms, that he avoided them because they were a bunch of smelly gypos.
The English department didn't appreciate the language or the sentiment.

Sort of. But the link was extremely tenuous, IIRC. It was 3-4 years ago, so I don't remember the exact question we were asked.
What I do remember is being stupid on the next question, where I spent 40 minutes criticising the question itself before actually doing it. Once again, the English department went ape**** (quite rightly as well; smart-arsed little **** that I was).
