    United Defense, IIRC.

They are also mildly displeased that that DD(x) family of Naval ships went to Northrup Grumnan(sic). The 155mm guns on those vessels will *not* be bought from them.
Today, you are the waves of the Pacific, pushing ever eastward. You are the sequoias rising from the Sierra Nevada, defiant and enduring.

    • DanS, you also need to consider the cost of the delivery platform and the ability to put rounds different places. A pilot can deliver x bombs and be over targets for y amount of time. And loitering over targets is not much of an option unless you want to lose flight crews.

A naval gun can just deliver round after round after mfing ROUND!!! Kaboom!

          • Making up for your inadequacies? I thought the nice, smooth torpedoes and missiles would have been enough for you.

I have a lot of inadequacies. Besides, you need something smaller to deal with small boats. Pirates in the Straights of Malaaca and such...(no, not lifeboats, Kitty! )

              • I hear you, GP. But the Pentagon weenies nearly jiz their pants when talking about delivering this kind of precision poundage damn near anywhere on the globe cost effectively.

I don't know how much a B52 would cost to replace, but we have over 100 bombers of various stripes in active duty, each capable of carrying 10-20 1K or 2K lb. JDAMs.

                            • BTW, Kitty I'm not really serious about the deck guns. But, well it would be kinda cool.

Who knows maybe we futz around with the current trend for littoral warfare and against blue water sea control (guess everybody concedes us that anyway...), we can come up with a plasible rationale...
