I never said that Bush Sr. was stupid, there was a included. However the statements holds a bit of truth. It's easier to tink of a person as smart if you agree with him. Human nature I suppose.
Does the family getting rich on Nazi money count as a positive qualification? It was smart, though not entirely ethical
Who said ethical? He was Director of the CIA, after all.
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
- John 13:34-35 (NRSV)
regardless of IQ jr. seems to do better with the same "plan" as Sr.. Sr. Didn't manage to gain popular support and a new period in the white house through a war. Jr. is clearcly doing better with that but that's probably due to the circumstances. We'll have to wait and see if a future campain in Iraq will be Jr:s Waterloo...
Oh yes I know, but not popular enough or for a long enough time. I've got the impression that the support is bigger this time around but that's of cource just my point of view and hardly worth much.
If the US economy stays slack then Bush will have a hard time being relected. The US elections are rarely dependent on how the President deals with foreign issues. If the economy hadn't dipped the last year of the Clinton administration it would be Gore dealing with this mess.
In the UK "Right" parties win during recession and "Left" parties win during economic boom.
The state of the economy is important, but if people feel affluent they are more likely to vote left, if they feel financially insecure they will be more likely to vote right. This is of course speculation based on UK election results for the past 50 years.
One day Canada will rule the world, and then we'll all be sorry.
Ethelred have an important point there. I do think I remember some article about the correlation of GDP growth and election results in the US. Hardly the best issue to use that kind of analysis on but the point was quite clear.

Based on what?
Which side are we on? We're on the side of the demons, Chief. We are evil men in the gardens of paradise, sent by the forces of death to spread devastation and destruction wherever we go. I'm surprised you didn't know that. --Saul Tigh
None of us can for sure know the intelligence of Jr. as we don't have personal and daily contact with the bloke. But most I've heard him say and the way he says it doesn't make me think of him as a intelligent man. He has yet to make or say something that can me change my mind.
He's quite likeable but he looks dumb as all f*ck. Sometimes he looks competely lost and confused. Haven't you seen that look?
I mean the guy reads speeches as if he doesn't understand them but thinks they sound good and he's wondering who wrote it and what it means. He actually pauses to savor the speech.
Need I go on?
He looks like he'd be a good guy to have a drink with but you don't make barflys President.
