Plus, the reason for those additional tariffs is to get some money back from the US for income lost by EU steel factories. The EU requested the US to compensate the EU factories for their loss, but the US rejected this. So therefor, the tariffs are put in place.

From what I understand that clause is intended to protect against a sudden increase in imports. That is not the case with steel.

The reason the US is suffering, is because their steel industry is hopeless.

and cause of the US' tariffs, the EU will get hurt (less exports, dumping of steel by other nations in our markets, unfair competition for US companies). We have every right to retaliate.

the tarrifs would hit goods in the hotly-contested "swing states" that Bush will need to win the next election.
I believe that the American government has done something similar to Europe in the past.

Bush makes people dump steel in the US.

Edit: Here's the info that the US tariff is based on: http://www.usitc.gov/steel/

I think bush was an idiot to put on tariffs.

But this hurts the EU. They are a huge Exporter to America. So any retaliation is not as strong as the orignal tariff's bushed imposed (32.6%?).

We have every right to retaliate.

Yup and you should. But it hurts you also. Just so you know.

The American Steel might be revitalized. I dont know. With the Economy coming back, and Tariff's on EU steel. Consumers might turn to US steel because the tariff's imposed on EU steel make it more expensive. But its all crap-enomics.

Bush was an idiot to do this anyway.

Agreed. It's just that the retaliation harms you further. Did you understand what I meant when I said that I advocate unilateral free trade?

I think you pulled this out of your ass. TIME didnt report anything. But EU is considering further retaliation. However, such a move would be considered Undermining the Bush administration. Not a good idea. And could lead to further retalations on are side. Oh and your over your heads. USA Market is the biggest one on Earth. It hurts you enormously when we place restrictions on your imports. So dont push your luck.
