That is correct.

see, if you joined the US, you would have all that money that the pentagon uses to support the troops. a gluttony of money would be made immediately available
Just because the French don't know how to fight doesn't mean the country shouldn't be able to defend itself.

From Bush, as soon as he declares Canada part of the axis of evil because of the softwood lumber dispute.

Seriously, though. We have the capability to defend ourselves from anything but a serious invasion attempt. That could only come from one possible place in the foreseeable future, and if they attack us we wouldn't be able to stand under it no matter how much we spend.
I'm not sure you're aware just how bad the situation is.
Our helicopters are deathtraps. Literally.
The CF-18s are about to become very obsolete.
The military's guns are ancient and obsolete.
Our subs are leaking.
Canadian troops bought two-ways radios at Radio Shack before heading to afghanistan as they were more reliable than the official radio gear.
The liberals need to wake up before half of the military dies from mechanical failure.

Eh. Why? Decomission the Sea Kings, don't bother buying new helos. CF-18s aren't even close to obsolete. The avionics we've put on them are, but that's a relatively minor investment to make.
The military's guns are ancient and obsolete
Which ones? The C9 they give to every soldier that's an exact copy of what the US hands to its soldiers?
Our subs were just bought from the British, a substantial new investment in the military. 2-way radios from Radio Shack are probably ten times cheaper and just as effective as anything the government would specifically contract out.
Our military doesn't fight wars, Asher. It's there as a placeholder because everybody else has one too.

Why do you think CF-18s aren't even close to obsolete? Missiles are falling off their wings as they're flying.
Didn't you hear about that?
In exercises a dummy missile fell off the wing of an CF-18 as it was flying and fell into a farmer's field.
Another time the cockpit cover blew off midflight(!), also landing in a farmer's field.
Until a few years ago they could only track 1 target, and missed a lot when attacking. Pocket calculators had more computing power...I hear they upgraded to 486s (seriously) so they can track multiple targets now...

The US doesn't use those in actual combat these days.
We do.

It's sad they're already leaking and needing more and more refits, isn't it?

That's entirely NOT the point.

Our military's not going to be around for another decade if the liberals keep this up.
At least they've shown interest in the JSF.

The government is in the process of buying new helicopters (and the sooner the better).
Replacing the CF-18s would not be a great idea. We simply don't need them. I know that is heresy coming from an Air Force guy, but the fact of the matter is that there is no situation where we would really require them. Instead of buying fighters, we'd be better off buying better helicopters, transport aircraft, and other support aircraft that could be used durign peacekeeping missions. We also need money to upgrade the Auroras, which are getting a bit long in the tooth. After we have done all of that, then we might consider getting some new fighters.
The subs are going through standard tests and there are bound to be problems.
Haven't heard the story about Radio Shack. Any links?
