Mugabe is just another African crook...

Oh wait, he targets whites; impose sanctions! Bomb Zimbabwe! Remove this monster from power!

Would that picture have touched you just as much if there wasn't a dog guarding his owners dead body?
No, it wouldn't have. But that's what photojournalism is for-- to capture thoose kind of sad, personal moments. When I think of the Oklahoma City bombing, I think of the fireman with the baby. Now, when I think of Zimbabwe, I'll remember this picture.

I don't think it's wrong. It brings tragedies home, evokes emotion, and forces moral people to at least try and help.

The evoking emotions part is dangerous. Sure this pictures can be used to good effect. But the problem is that pictures can be used to evoke emotions in millions of people through mass media, resulting in millions of people getting a biase view about, well just about anything you want them to feel sorry for or angry at.

Yes, I also agree with your own points, but a tragedy is still a tragedy, I don't care what side it happened to.

Economic sanctions are the first step in the right direction. Personally, i would like to see Zimbabwe invaded, and Mugabe impaled on live international television, with over-the-top commentary, but this will take a little time.
He is a ridiculous little tinpot madman racist homophobe tyrant who should be exterminated ASAP.

I cannot really tell which part of your post is serious and where the sarcasm begins, if any...

                  He should be assassinated.

Then the army would install an outright military dictator and then MAYBE South Africa and Kenya would stop supporting him.

Is Zimbabwe as a whole better off now? Or better off under the old "colonial" govt?

LOL you must be joking...it's like comparing South Africa before and after.

Only Kenya seems to have made a good transition.

IMO, Mugabe will remain in power and will probably die an old(er) man as president. Economic sanctions, removal from the Commonwealth, and massive uprisings will not be sufficient enough to remove him from power. African nieghbors will not raise a finger to chastise Mugabe and Western nations have very limited options to force Mugabe out of power. In other worlds, the only way Mugabe will leave will be due to internal assassination (not likely), by being voted out in 2007 (not likely), or by passing away (he's 78, probably the most likely).
