Reporter. We know a little bit about everything, but not enough to know a lot, and like the man said, a little bit of knowledge can be a dangerous thing. And yes, my occupation explains why I'm a obnoxious, know-it-all.

      FD,

I never suggested that you were racist. I suggested that perhaps you needed to open your eyes to the world a little bit more, try to understand that people have different expectations of you depending on the color of your skin. Don't get a persecution complex.

I seem to recall reading an International Herald Tribune article about concerns that the German education system was falling behind. One of the concerns raised was the dwindling number of male teachers in primary schools. IIRC, politicians and educators were trying to figure out how to reverse this trend.

It is a fact that the German education was (and is) falling behind, but our politicians seemed to be quite surprised to hear about that in the recent PISA study. They really have to be blind. Ten years ago, at the university we were told that is was not a good idea to use exam problems which are older than ten years for preparing towards our own, because we couldn't solve them, and which is not our fault. -- Now I am really shocked about the high percentage of people with a really weak orthography (>1 mistake per line).
I still regularly read a german newspaper here in France, but never heard anything about concerns of having no male teachers. There is a severe lack of teachers in general (and nobody really wants to pay for them). Also homemade. I've heard talks about that this will happen since 1980. During the seventies, they hired every idiot provided he/she was able to put a piece of chalk to the blackboard, ten years later even the best young teachers (i. e. excellent exams and we as pupils had the impression to have learnt really a lot, and to have had lots of fun) had no chance. But what else would you expect if in at least one of the Länder the minister for education failed as a teacher at school?

And it's getting worse. Deficitary coal mining is more important than education.

Why doing it the easy way if it is possible to do it complicated?

Interesting. There's a term we useto describe such investigation in Britain. We call it "stalking".
