Ok, in old times soap was delivered in the cities in sturdy wooden boxes. People who wish to harague a crowd would use these as platforms from which to do so. From this comes the saying, "get off your soap box" (shut up) and a few others including, "I got on my soap box." (I addressed the crowd) There ya go pal.
