To me jealously implies you want to be the thing you are jealous of, we don't want to be like America - we just don't want America to be as relatively powerful as it is.

Why do all the europeans on this board consider Ameica as a "sucky

Replace "all" with "many", I don't think the average European sees America as bad, just "misguided" or "bigheaded".

I think there's always a tendency for people to decry the imperialist ambitions of other nations while blatantly ignoring their own. The british on these boards seem to turn a blind eye to their own guilt in creating war and chaos all over the world, form the days of the british empire to today, while attacking the same tendencies elsewhere. As for the communist legacy on defending the USSR...

Only a small core of sensible leftists have the guts to go against all imperialists. And for some reason, David Floyd.

Crap thread. Boring insults. You should all be ashamed of yourselves.

Snapcase- we don't ignore British imperialism and foreign policy. We glory in it. It reaffirms our beliefs that everyone can be summed up under the heading "tosspot".

you know what really busts my chops? (BTW what does this expression mean exactly?)

all those fat bastards who live in countries with no enemies and no problems and then critisize. I guess that's what busts the chops of the americans too.

Zylka: that is the funniest thing I have ever heard

I have always liked and supported Europe. I love the countries and the people for the most part. It just sucks to see ignorant journalists with a widely read newspaper as their medium. As far as my opinion of the EU: I really do think that some of the officials are hypocrits and purposely misleading the masses. I don't really think i like the idea of the EU, but that's just because I liked travelling and using the different currencies etc.

You want to know the REALLY funny thing tho? Before long the EU is going to decide they need to adopt an official language. Any one want to wager what that language will be? MUAHAHAHAHA

Why? It was totally devoid of wit or intelligent content.

And can you guess which country 'English' is named after?

Why do a significant proportion of Americans seem to think that English is native to their country, and didn't have European roots first

But just to lighten the mood:

Having chosen English as the preferred
language in the EU, the European
                              Parliament has commissioned a
feasibility study in ways of improving
                              efficiency in communications between
                              Government departments.

European officials have often pointed out
                              that English spelling is unnecessarily
                              difficult; for example: cough, plough,
rough, through and thorough. What is
clearly needed is a phased programme of
changes to iron out these anomalies. The
                              programme would, of course, be
administered by a committee staff at top
                              level by participating nations.

In the first year, for example, the
committee would suggest using 's' instead
of the soft 'c'. Sertainly, sivil servants
in all sities would resieve this news with
joy. Then the hard 'c' could be replaced by
'k' sinse both letters are pronounsed
alike. Not only would this klear up
konfusion in the minds of klerikal workers,
but typewriters kould be made with one
                              less letter.

There would be growing enthusiasm when
in the sekond year, it was announsed that
the troublesome 'ph' would henseforth be
written 'f'. This would make words like
                              'fotograf'twenty persent shorter in print.

In the third year, publik akseptanse of the
new spelling kan be expekted to reash the
                              stage where more komplikated shanges
                              are possible. Governments would
enkourage the removal of double leters
whish have always been a deterent to
                              akurate speling.

We would al agre that the horible mes of
silent 'e's in the languag is disgrasful.
Therefor we kould drop them and kontinu
to read and writ as though nothing had
hapend. By this tim it woulde four years
sins the skem began and peopl would be
reseptive to steps sutsh as replasing 'th'
by 'z'. Perhaps zen ze funktion of 'w'
kould be taken on by 'v', vitsh is, after
al, half a 'w'. Shortly after zis, ze
unesesary 'o kould be dropd from vords

we just need to realise it is as such
