Every time."Paul Hanson, you should give Gibraltar back to the Spanish" - Paiktis, dramatically over-estimating my influence in diplomatic circles.

My candidate is the entire repetoire of the Backstreet Boys. Worse even than Nsync.I refute it thus!

At least if a song is catchy, then it has something going for it.
The worst would have to be some of the turgid Andrew Lloyd Webber songs I've had the misfortune to come across - not the famous ones, though they're bad enough, but the ones that have no discernable melody, structure or interest, and annoyingly self-conscious lyrics to boot.yada

Thanks to the countless 70's nostalgia programs aired by the BBC, I have been subjected many times to a song whose name I forget, performed by a man dressed like a well-to-do tramp, consisting mainly of the lyrics "shut-uppa your face".
The man's name was Joe Dolci, and the song was called Shaddupya Face. He re-emerged from somewhere a couple of years ago to do a rather creative acoustic version of Michael Jackson's Thriller on radio in Sydney. It was far superior to the original. It might even forgive his previous sins

"First Date"- Blink 182, neat video, terrible song, but not the worst...
... the worst was sung by some short, cubby Mexican dude with a frow-mullet . It was a horribly cheesy love song, and if anyone has any ideas on who is mysterious man is, please, enlighten me."It woulda been nice to have naked midgets serving us cocktails everyday." - Brandon Boyd of Incubus
"...gays who, because they just NEEDED their orgies..." -Mr. A. Speer

Time for a history lesson
Brittany Spears? Wham UK? You people are too young. I'm sorry to be the one to do this, but you must all, right now, confront the immense cultural horror that was the year 1974. It's hits, offered from my ever-scarred memory, starting with the one-hit wonders and moving on to more established acts:
"Seasons in the Sun" - Terry Jacks
"The Night Chicago Died" - Paper Lace
"Billy, Don't Be a Hero" - Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods
"Run Joey Run" - David Geddes
"Hooked on a Feeling" - Blue Suede, I think
"Longfellow Serenade" (bad even by Neil Diamond standards)
"Having My Baby" - Paul Anka
"I'm Leaving It All Up To You" - Donny and Marie
"Sunshine On My Sholder" - John Denver
"My Melody of Love" - Bobby Vinton (you've probably never heard of it. Lucky you. Vinton's basically a lounge singer, and some of the lyrics were in Polish. "nuff said.)
Not one, but TWO Helen Reddy songs: "Angie Baby" and "You and Me Against the World"
Not one, not two, but THREE "novelty" hits:
"Monster Mash" - Bobby "Boris" Pickett and his Crypt-Kicker 5
"The Streak" - Ray Stevens (for the historically or culturally deprived, "streaking" was the 70s fad of running through a public event naked, which reached it's high water-mark when someone streaked at either the 74 or 75 Oscars)
"The Lord's Prayer" - Sister Janet Mead (I'm not making that up)
Tremble, mortals! And yet, for all of that, my own pick is the execreble (all together now): "She ran calling Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiildfire...""I have as much authority as the pope. I just don't have as many people who believe it." — George Carlin
