If you've really got £3700 get out of the country and travel a bit. Prague is a brilliant place. You could live there on that amount of money for months. Then I seem to remember you talking about moving to Manchester and get a job doing something there. I think most of the pharma companies and research places are in the south east but there must be some up there.

Most people don't really know what to do with their lives and just end up doing something.

PH, I PM'ed you about this very nice female neuro-biologist in Amsterdam I had lined up for you!! Now what? Don't know if she be interested in a drop-out. Since you didn't respond I take it you're not interested?

Anyway, follow the advise about being free as a bird. At least you now have enough time to posts here.
Well, lets just imagine my question is not hypothetical then...

I thought you were sending her info through but I haven't had the opportunity to check my PMs for a while now anyway...

Thanks Yin and Alphaman, those are two brilliant pieces of advice. My emphasis is very much on the quality of life I lead rather than lots of money. But it is just knowing what I want to do to earn this money. Time is something I have at the moment, not too much, but some nonetheless...I am just going to browse through, see what takes my fancy and make plans to move out too, one of my priorities is to work somewhere else, not at home. No doubt about that.

            very very true

just to add... if you have a place on earth you would like to visit, or be there for a while, do it now! This is most likely your only opportunity in next 40 years until retirement. Find any job or just go there and teach english or something... if you want to stay here in UK... but move, just do the same go first and work in a pub, and than think. You can always go home if things don't work out, but there is no reason for it really.

I'll speak to my dad tonight, he works in the area that you work in. I remember telling him you were looking for a job round here and he said he could give me a list of names for you.

He works for Manchester Uni at Hope Hospital and he knows all about NHS and Uni beurocracy (sp?)

Anyway, I'll have a word with him and pass on the names and stuff.

Of course if you change your mind and decide to continue your PhD that money you have is enough to get you to the states to join Hellokitty's PhD program in rat torture.

Lets see, I guess the clergy is out for the moment...what about the Provost gig, tired of that?

How about a stint in the French foreign legion? Think of all the funny gravy!

Dum Da Dumm Dumm, Da Da De Dumm Da Dummmmm... The British Navy WANTS YOU! Yes that's right, go into action supporting the Americans around the globe!

Can you make a good burger Provost?

Got money? We're about to head for the Philippines. Airline tickets are cheap now. Try Cathay Pacific and see what it costs London-Hong Kong / Hong Kong-Cebu. You might be amazed how cheap it is. Once there it's three beers for a buck, maybe 4 or better for a pound. Fish! Shrimp by the bucket, 3 $ for a kilo of bigguns as long as your arm if your arm is eight inches long! WARMTH, plenty of it. Free room and board, just bring a chicken home from the market once in a while. You could survive w/ a smile on $150 a month. Borrow it from Dookey, he's loaded. He might even have some money... That's the good stuff, I'll tell you the bad stuff if you're interested.

Hey, what do you think of 'Provost Lancer'? Catchy?

                      I'm with John Miller,
after dropping your Ph.D. you would bey very well qualified to study some theology !

When I look at your avator I discover that there's much you don't know about christianity. I guess only completely ignorant people about christianity would put up such an avator as a protest against christianity.

about your avator: I agree with you !
No place for the cross anymore, Jesus lives !

                      thanks for your avator-support !

Provost, you inspired me to use your avator.
I slightly changed it, because I wonder if people will understand the meaning behind your current one.

More info is in my signature
Thanks again ! Together we'll spread the word that Jesus lives !

I suggest that all christians use the same avator.

Well do I have to explain my avatar to you as well Actually it is the logo of a band called 'Bad Religion', and it just seemed apt for me in winding up Christians such as yourself.

And let's face it, Jesus snuffed it nearly two millennia ago

Provost, get the hell out of dodge man! You know what one of my best friends did when i graduated college? He left the US. I think he went to Ireland for a few months, then to germany for a few months, then to australia for a few months, i think he's in asia somewhere at the moment . . . he's on his way to california soon . . . anyway, just move somewhere and start working. Be smart with your money, save up for the next move, use some to have a good time with where you at, see the sights, meet the people and just go. It's what I plan on doing after i get out of the army . . .
