  • One of the things I learned over the weekend is that part of the problem between the US and the locals was cultural. Apparently, in Somolia it is considered a grave insult to show someone the bottom of your foot. It is the equivalent of flipping someone the bird. Now, all these soldiers flying around in choppers with their feet hanging out are basically flipping off all of Mogadishu. Completely unintentional on our part, but it seriously pissed off the locals, who were just as unaware that we didn't know.

    That's just one little thing.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

    • Dom got me so pissed I forgot to mention the movie. I went to it on Friday, damn good movie with some good humor. The funniest part is the deaf guy part, but that is about as funny as the movie gets, great job by Brukheimer but what would expect from the guy who brought you Top Gun, Armageddon, Bad Boys, Pearl Harbor, and the hit series CSI.

The only thing I think the General could have done is get the 10th Mountain division in there sooner to help out, but I understand the 10th was under Paki control which is bull**** to begin with, I don't know if the General could have gotton the 10th Division in there sooner by negociating with the Paki General but that is the only thing I could see that he could have tried harder in, right after the first Black Hawk went down.

Did they recover all the bodies of the Special Forces?

      • Also you shouldn't raise your eyebrows when in Japan. It is considered an insult.

        Never do that

Why? Soldiers going into combat know the risks. It is their job to take these risks. While it is all very unfortunate (it is not nice when anyone dies - including the Somalis) you shouldn't feel bad about it. They were paid to die. **** happens.

And anyway, haven't we seen enough of these sort of movies already?

What sort of movie do you think this is?

Haven't seen it - not sure if I can be bothered.

I saw 'Monsoon Wedding' the other night. I really enjoyed it much more than I was expecting. It was funny but strangely touching at the same time. Anyone else seen it?

That didn't answer the question I asked, RJ. I've seen the movie and don't need to read a review of it.

                • RJ: Even though they've accepted the risks, you can still feel bad for them. Thinking that American blood is valuable is no vice.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. • Defiant, another proud American.

You must be one dumb son-of-a-***** or twelve years old.
No my dear friend, I think you are twelve years old, considering of course, the primitive language that you use. You just can't prevent yourself from using an f-word, can you?

                    Americans!

You men come in waves! I wonder how many more of you will jump on the bandwagon and draw your little blasters. Made in America.

It is funny how cowards like you never want us or think you need us until somebody puts a Saddam on your border and you start crying for the USA to come out and save your ass with our soldiers and military but once the deed is done you go back to hating us.
Oh, Defiant, how you hate the rest of the world and see other countries as cowards.

The Saddams of the world that America created, along with all the Bin Ladens. Such double sided policy. The United States helps the Kurds in Iraq because Saddam is killing them, but in Turkey the United States is against the Kurds because they are the terrorists.

Your response is to say you would sit and eat popcorn.
You better believe it! I found the popcorn a bit funny. If you think it's too strong, you don't have to read it. Go bury your head in a pillow and cry over Sept 11. It certainly paled in comparison to what some of the Americans here have posted about other countries and peoples of the world.

                      • Yea Dom,
We create all the bad guys in the world, we have that much power.
I didn't say countries are cowards, only you.

Bin Laden, that's nice, we help him to take our Russia a mutual enemy of the time and then we leave, we have no obligation to rebuild that country, they could be speaking Russia right now. If we would have stayed and rebuilt that country and we would be regarded as imperialists, you see, it is a no win situation. He really hates us for having a presence in Saudi, once again, USA please come in and take out the evil Saddam so that Saudi doesn't become the next Kuwait with your military and boys to die so we can keep selling you oil and become even richer and oh yea when you are done get your imperialist ass off our country.
That is such bull****, Iraq, Kuwait and to some extent Saudi should be subject of the United States.
Before you open your trap you should look at it from our point of view.

Sure. The point Dom is making is that the US has no reservations in supporting passively the genocide of a people by a regime if it suits her interests while on the same time helping the very same people in overthrowing another regime which doesn't suit her interests.

I am assuming you are regarding ALL KURDS as terrorists or could it be some KURDS are terroritst and Turkey is hunting them down, I am sure they are not attacking all 20 million of them of which the vast majority we are trying to defend against Saddam.
