This fan site has a bunch more screenshots for Defcon.
Speaking of that fan site, just pulled this from the news page...
Dated today.
It looks like Golem Labs has signed a North American publisher now, though they cannot release specific details at the moment. Jean-Rene believes that there will be a demo and that the game will go gold early next year. The game might hit store shelves a couple of weeks after gold. I am very excited to see the game so close to completion, but my excitement has been held in check by patience. Its been close to done for awhile, GL is going to extra mile to polish thier first product.

Shi,
Check out the section on AI on the website ; I believe they mention something along those lines. (I can't see it now because I am using Netscape and the site doesn't work properly on that). Incidentally they seem to be making a real effort to try new things with the AI; let's hope they work.
BTW those of you who like the look of the game and who are active on other off-topic game forums can perhaps start threads there about it; I think it would be nice to get a little bit of buzz going.Last edited by Kautilya; December 12, 2001, 02:17.

The smaller companys perform better. thats a fact......there expectations are much higher. cause if they fail there gone.
Oh here is what else I read about AI
> That is the most difficult part of the AI coding: not making it do intelligent things, but making it not do stupid things. So far, it seems to hold. We had to enter checks and double-checks all along the decision-making line, but it's doing the right things. We try not to include too much of that code since we want the AI to make it's own decisions, and we want it to adapt to a changing situation. So we couldn't just say: "The US never invades Canada", because that would open the door to a canadian player to simply invade the US without retaliation (he he he...)
> But the code that was in gives really accurate results. When we first launched it, and printed the "possible targets" of the US (country's it wouldn't mind attacking), we got Irak, North Korea, China and Russia. And keep in mind, we didn't tell it how to behave, it got those countries simply by analysing the world. So I think it'll hold.

Oh ya.......there are also consequences for nations who build WoD. If Iraq built a nuke or Chem weps......since its paraih status is in the game. US and UK would most definetaly bomb it. (maybe even invade!)
But I like the idea of international relief fund. Where poor nations can borrrow money from rich in exchange for good international reputation. Wow its real world

Already did so at the official Europa Universalis Off Topic forum.
Damn, I'm having the same feeling about this game (anticipation-wise) that I was having about Europa Universalis late last year."Let us kill the English! Their concept of individual rights could undermine the power of our beloved tyrants!"

Thanks Kyle. Saw that thread.
Faded Glory,
The combat model is one of the most interesting things. The site says they have stats for 4000 different units so it should be an interesting mix of abstraction and realism. I think it will be more interesting than clicking on an endless series of units and ordering them one by one like Civ. Hopefully they have managed to decrease the ratio of clickwork to strategy. EU was pretty good with that.

Whilst, the combat does look interesting I like the Geo-Political and Managment landscape!!!
Its almost like you are the freakin president! And if the AI lives up to what Jean is saying (Which I have no doubt he speaks truth!) then it will be much like a world simulator!!!!!!!
****....this game theres Every real world option.
