    • Grow up guys!

Some of you 'vets' are really putting yourselves to shame!!!

We were all newbies once, and we should be celebrating our newest members as worthy additions to the Apolyton community - not abuse them...

      Welcome Newbies!

Don't worry about all this elitist bullcrap

Is it me, or is MOBIUS a horrible person?

        What a goof!

All I'm saying is that not everyone keeps documented records on the history of the forums here. Have you noticed that your "veteran" contemporaries have not answered your questions either? It's because absolutely no one knows, or cares!
Actually, you should come to the OT many people start threads with questions like I listed Though it is generally myself.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who goes through phases with Civ, sometimes I don't read the forums for months on end, and sometimes I'm on here a few times a day. So I can't answer your question on the Area25 thing, or whatever, but I can tell you that I used to check out The First Greek Site back when it used to really suck. I also used to follow The Ultimate site, and Civ Fanatics when that Thunderfall dude first started it. The Ultimate forum used to rock, but that was before your time.
Actually not- I posted at the Civ II Universe around Aug 1999 or sometime from then to Dec 1999- but I suppose you "could" say it was before my time, since it was nearly abandoned then Then again, I didn't have the internet @ home before Aug 1999- however, I did have access to the internet at other places and found Markos' and Dans' sites around Dec 1998- when I got the internet in Aug 1999- I looked for the Ultimate Civ II site and couldn't find it- in Dec 1999 or so I found Apolyton, and in March 2000 I found the forums. (I couldn't view them since I wasnt registered) Then in Aug 2000, I registered and posted here.
Also, In about Dec or Nov 1999 I also found civFanatics

the thing in your post that annoyed me was the forums saying- but since you say that you checked out all those forums- I respect you more now.

No one has said it better than sachmo71 about the way you "vets" confuse a game forum for actual social interaction! The last time I farted around this area, I got so bored of the game that I dropped it for a while. There was some dude called "Wife Hates Civ" or something constantly spamming, some guy named "Scouse Grits" or whatever, trying to make an actual "Great Library" and it just gets pathetic.
How dare you bash Scouse Gits- that person is three people; but at least you answered the question Why bash him/her/him- they were trying to do something worthwhile!!! That is merely insulting.

The only "vet" in the last 3 weeks that has posted anything remotely interesting is "Venger," all of the other posts that are neat or cool have been those from "newbies."
??? What about the Civ IV List- then again- you don't like lists (see your comment on Great Library)

            • Why was this moved to OT?
"Spirit merges with matter to sanctify the universe. Matter transcends to return to spirit. The interchangeability of matter and spirit means the starlit magic of the outermost life of our universe becomes the soul-light magic of the innermost life of our self." - Dennis Kucinich, candidate for the U. S. presidency

              • (My above post was not serious)

This forum has also turned into a kind of newbie hell.

A newbie is a newbie so long as they want to be classified as one. As soon as they stop making newbie comments and just act like a poster who only got here recently its entirely different. Its the vast number of unknown people posting that has upset the balance, and the Civ3 forum has been a breeding ground for rampant unchecked newbieism, as no-one is/can be a Civ3 "vet". As soon as people start to leave, the ones who remain will be better known, and the crap will get filterd out, and the respectable will be respected, "newbie" or "vet" or "new vet", or "old newbie" or whatever.

                    • Oh yes. The "newbie" issue.

Anyone making a post about "newbies" without distancing themself from the label inevitably becomes possessed by the god of twattery until the "post" button is pressed. There are many, many things that drive me to distraction, but one of the most reliable is some drivelling half-wit with an overly-inflated sense of their own worth whining like a miserable puppy about "newbies".

                        • this really doesn't make sense in the off topic. newbies don't post in the OT because it doesnt' raise their post count. but b!tching about civ3 does raise their post count. think about it.

                            • Actually I'm not that much of an elitest. Ahhh...who am I kidding...I am an elitist.

But it's funny, when the newbies don't even understand what the newbie title means. In the past, there was not that much crap given the newbies. But they also didn't disrupt the boards and just sort of trample around like little baby hippos...

                              • The thing I found funny about this thread was that I didn't in fact bash newbies. All I suggested was posters should post in the right forums. Then the thread took some interesting turns

I've never understood the obsession some posters have with start dates, vet status and such. This is just a MESSAGE BOARD for Christ's sake.
