I'm not questioning if he is a Nazi. I don't believe that for a minute. The real power of the Monarchy lies in its public relations ability. For good or ill, their opinion and judgement still matters in this world. A 20 year old that is only a couple of missing heartbeats from the throne should be better prepared to make a judgement call. A hundred years from now, perhaps dressing as a Nazi will not bring any more attention than dressing as Ghengis Khan would today, but there are many still alive who lived through the Nazi nightmare. It was very poor judgement and a total lack of sensitivity to a fairly fresh (from a historical point of view) event.

Given that a fair amount of his education was probably devoted to protocol, it is hard to imagine that there should not be outrage over this.

      Excellent.

Mmm, do much dressing up for fancy dress parties in Klan costumes, do you?
I have seen that acutally, usually at halloween. \

See, some people might think that comical, other people might take offence.
If you are an oversensitive ass then I could care less what you think. I could also care less what you think if we are discussing whether or not he is a Nazi, beause in that case all that maters is his motives.

Was there a pressing need for him to wear a swstika armband?
        No, as stated.

well yes i was thinking he might have been making a poor joke at his own expense(family).

heres the bbc article - everyone is going ape **** about it in the press here http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4170623.stm

remember half his family are from Germany - the other half(on his mothers side) could be classed as really british.

We also had a monarch who was forced to abdicate due to giving intel to the Nazis during WW2.

In this light, and all the murky stuff surrounding the death of his mother - it seemed to me he may have been having a dig at his fathers side of the family? Maybe his grandmother had given him a hard time about something?
Still i dont buy the 'communist windmill' story for a second - if he did actualy say it then i think thats a pretty good indicator he knew it would create a fuss, and leads me back to thinking he was having a go at his 'german' links for whatever reason.

Its kinda cool having a screwy royal family - you should all find yourselves some

Hey, if you can't use the anonymity of the Intenet to slander people and level totally unsubstansiated accusations then it's a poor state of affairs IMHO.

maybe he did a deal with the papers - if gran wont free up the money for a new car etc?

Im british - both my grandfathers fought in WW2, and one of them is jewish.

I'm not that offended - but maybe you need to come at it with a british sense of humour in the Monty Python/Spike Milligan tradition? Its kind of preposterous enough to be comic, short of the Queen delivering her yearly speach dressed as Hitler, i think this is about as funny(in a twisted self piss taking way) as a royal of the house of Hasburg could get away with no???

now that would be taking it too far - especialy if any of them were jewish!

It's offensive, sure--I think it was meant to be. 20 yr olds are often intentionally offensive twits.

Big deal? Nope. So he shows the world he's a bit of an idiot. Not like people don't already think that of the royals.

Now, were to actually go around being a Nazi, that would be a big cause for concern. But dressing up for a costume party is hardly the same thing as touting fascist beliefs.
