  • US drops from the top 10 free economies list

US is only slightly higher than Sweden - and below Denmark...
"Spirit merges with matter to sanctify the universe. Matter transcends to return to spirit. The interchangeability of matter and spirit means the starlit magic of the outermost life of our universe becomes the soul-light magic of the innermost life of our self." - Dennis Kucinich, candidate for the U. S. presidency

It's Itar-Tass quoting Wall Street Journal quoting the Heritage Foundation.

        Yeah, I know, of course.

Anyway, I've heard about it, and it seems that the grade is given not based on statistical data, but mostly by 'experts' that grade them.

What does it mean? The US hasn't become socialist has it?
'There is a greater darkness than the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way. The war we fight is not against powers and principalities, it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender. The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.'"

That's only one factor in the score. You could have 80% taxation, but still have a "free" economy. See Denmark.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

It doesn't have much to do with socialism. You could have 80% taxation,

funny enough, socialism doesn't have anything to do with high taxation, either.

kind of crude, since noone was talking about taxation before you.

Itar-Tass, what a source for news in the world!

                      Here is the original list:

Since our founding in 1973, The Heritage Foundation has been working to advance the principles of free enterprise, limited government, individual freedom, traditional American values, and a strong national defense.

I think it has a whole lot to do with socialism. Taxes are a way to make individuals and firms responsible to society as opposed to themselves.

Oh, you wouldn't want to be below Denmark - what with all the roasted pork they eat straight out of bag it would be very uncomfortable, and with their porn addiction who knows what they'd get in their heads...
