Except that War was fought BY the UN- any single member of the coolition has 0 authorization to break the cease-fire by themselves.

Sorry Oerdin, but any way you cut it, the invasion was unauthorized- you might not care, but it was not legal.

      • It may be a techincality but the truth is the UN explicitly authorized military action against Iraq and the cease fire was based upon certasin conditions; conditions which Saddam repeatedly broke.
The UN authorised ousting Iraq from Kuwait. There was no UN resolution authorising the US to invade Iraq for regime change. If the UN didn't like how Iraq was behaving in the face of resolutions, its up to the UN to authorise an invasion just as it would be when Israel ignores UN resolutions. Of course, I'm not shedding any tears about the US ignoring the UN...

It used to be what Giancarlo called himself - actually he started out as Giancarlo and spent a period calling himself Fez (during which he developed his current reputation).

He claims that he is trying to change that reputation and I would say that the standard of his posts has improved - not enough to warrant ignoring his past yet I would say, but I think it certainly is something we should encourage.

That sounds dangerously paranoid to me Giancarlo - I hope you're exaggerating.

The US was explicitly authorized to decide military situation in Iraq by the UN in 1990. This was never recended so it is you who are in error.

They were authorized to remove Iraq from Kuwait and to insure that UN resolutions were upheld.

Having read the actual resolution, sorry, but no. Authorization was given to remove Iraq from kuwait, certainly-but regime change in Iraq? NO. The fact is the UN can't authorize such an action anyways.

That was the reason for the change. He even had Fes on his avatar. Though, since it seems it was more prounced Fez, that is what it was. And it's easier to write than whatshisname .
