Why am I not a Christian?

I'm too fond of striving for accuracy in historical accounts.

Can't answer for Spraybear, but in my case it's your posts that does the trick.
Why can't you be a non-conformist just like everybody else?

why I am not a christian?

church is boring. If church had sexual orgies, I'd attend every week.

I'm quite certain one could participitate in church sexual orgies without being a Christian ...

true, but christianity really is only a social group. (and I would have no idea where to find orgies in real life )

My theory is people are religious mainly for the social reasons of belonging to the "group".

Church is supposedly a good place to meet people.

                        Ben,

You should read Robert Ingersoll ("The Great Agnostic"), esp. Some Mistakes of Moses and Michael Martin. Martin's easily the most philosophical of the three.

                        Sava,

Careful about those personal insults, even when the other party doesn't seem to mind.

Some mistakes of Moses is about the contradictions and implusabilities Ingersoll found in the Pentateuch, the first 5 books of the Old Testament, supposedly written by Moses himself.

Ah understood. The Torah is basically the 5 books of Moses, and I saw a documentary the other day it... such as those books supposedly written by moses, including his own death and eulogy

Might I also suggest The Dark Side of Christian History, by Hellen Ellerbe.* I found this at my high school library which doubled as a branch of the Washoe COunty Library System years ago. I now own a copy. I seems like an attack book, but really isn't. It explores the developement and roots of Christianity since the time of Jesus. The cover and title are really just for shock value to get you to read it.
