It is in Australia, but it is not called Amsterdam. The connection between the two cities is slightly more.... 'spiritual'.

Nimbin is about 30 minutes from where I grew up...
It was a fairly harmless little village until the early 70's where a festival dedicated to the dawning of the age of Aquarius was held there, drawing a massive amount of hippies who, well... never left.
Nowadays it's the weed capital of Australia... home to the H.E.M.P. Embassy (help end marijuana prohibition) and the annual Mardi Grass festival.
You don't even need to ask for weed... the service comes to you in the main street and in the cafe. Of course there's all sorts of drugs there nowadays, notably heroin
so it's not the happy-go-lucky town it once was.
