I'm for civil unions for everyone sanctioned by the state, marriage by any entity which chooses to make it so sanctioned by that entity in any way it wishes. I don't agree with outlawing homosexual sex or the clumsy attempts to do so through the back door (joke intended) by outlawing sodomy / oral sex. I think homosexuals should have the rights that every other group has to public accomodations etc. Society should leave homosexuals alone to live their lives as they wish, as their rights to do so trump the need for others to not be offended by their homosexuality.
That said I don't believe that homosexuality has been proven to be genetic or even biological in nature. Not by a longshot. I know personally a dozen people (friends) who have changed their sexual orientation or whose sexual orientation has changed. I've seen long time lesbians fall in love with men and get married and live happily ever after. I've also met gay couple who have been together for more than 50 years and who claim that they were born gay and never had a heterosexual thought in their lives, and I have no reason to doubt them. I've also noted an unusually strong correlation between homosexuality and childhood sexual abuse. One of my closest friends is a lesbian, and I asked her if she knew a single lesbian who wasn't molested as a child. She didn't. On the other hand I've known a large number of gays / lesbians who say that they were never molested and I believe them.
Is it possible that we are looking at two or more different roads to the same destination? Is it possible that EVERONE WHO CLAIMS TO KNOW just how homosexuality is is really overstating their case? I can't say that I know how other heterosexuals feel, how they came to their sexuality, or whether they struggle with it etc. Why should homosexuals be any different?
