While I think that gays should be allowed to get married by any Institiution that will allow it... I have to agree with Boshko. The word "marriage" is the problem. Gays should focus on get the legal rights, no matter what it is called, because that's what' is important. While I will continue to support the right for Gays to get married, I would also suggest they "crawl before they walk" and their primary focus should be for getting civil unions (with all the same rights as marriage) passed...

Cybershy, your distinction between interracial marriages and homosexual marriages is untenable. Saying that the law was you can't marry someone if they are a different race is not the same as saying you can't marry someone if they are the same sexual orientation as you is utterly silly. Both are discriminatory. Saying homosexuals can marry people of the opposite sex, so marriage isn't discriminatory is also foolish. That was the argument given by anti-black bigots who said their anti-miscegination laws were ok because whites could marry other whites and blacks could marry other blacks.

I read them and didn't take them seriously. Traditional marriage is not just man and woman. For a long time during world history, men and women of different classes, ethncities, clan membership, relgions, etc. could not get married to each other. Also most marriages were arranged by families.

So the whole idea of tradition in marriage is a foolish one to promote.

Mariage has been ruined already by millions of heterosexuals who thought mariage was something they could enjoy as an individual, rather then a couple of two persons.

I hope you gays will improve mariage and enjoy it, and live a happy life.
