  • Ramo, agreed. But he was right.

    • No, he wasn't. Rabid, obscene unemployment is the single largest cause of the failure of reconstruction.

      • Ramo, in hindsight, perhaps. Another view is that the rebuilding of the Iraqi armed forces should have been a much higher priority -- including vetting of Saddam's senior NCO's and officers.

        • Anyone want to tackle the "Mondale was incompetent for advocating higher taxes on the rich," since that is the alleged reason that Mondale suffered the greatest defeat in US history, but that Kerry is not incompetent for advocating the very same thing?

          • Imran, if you want to argue along these lines, at least get your facts right. Mondale proposed exactly the same thing as does Kerry.

You quote has absolutely nothing to say about Mondale lowering taxes on the middle class and lower class. It just says that Mondale wanted to raise taxes in order to lower the deficit. Where is the lower taxes in Mondale's proposal?

And besides, a quote of an opponent is supposed to be taken as total fact?

When you have about 400,000 unemployed professional soldiers, I'd say it's pretty damn easy. They should have never been fired in the first place.

                • What, you think those guys have found jobs already?

That's pretty easy with a 67% unemployment rate.

You really mean that Kerry favors maintaining the Bush tax cuts on the middle class.

Yes, that is a difference -- lowering taxes on the middle class. This is exactly what Clinton said during the '92 campaign.

                    He lied.

Instead of lowering taxes on the middle class, he raised them.

So much for believing the word of any Democrat to cut taxes.

No, he favors CUTTING the Bush tax cuts on the middle class. Perhaps your inherant bias has blinded you to Kerry's plans.

And Bush said he wouldn't raise taxes in the '88 campaign.

                          • Imran, most Republicans lower taxes. Most Democrats raise them. So when a Democrat promises to lower them, we SHOULD be suspicious, especially at a time when they promise $2 trillion more per annum in new spending and also promise to balance the budget.

There is a lie in there someplace.

                            • You continually point to President Kennedy's lowering of taxes and he was a Democrat that promised to. Nixon definetly did not lower taxes. Neither did Bush, Sr. Who are these 'most Republicans'? Reagan and Bush, Jr? What about Nixon, Eisenhower? IIRC, Carter did not raise taxes, but them at a level keel.
