Sorry, Che, the whole point is that Bush didn't serve as a member of the Alabama ANG, only that he was in Alabama and if he needed to fulfill any requirements (flight hours or paperwork) he would have reported to that unit.
Several NG members here state that's the way things were in NG units at the time because of the increasing numbers of vets returning to civilian life and doing NG duty as part of reserve status.

Ned -Bigshot Neo-cons were telling us it would be a cakewalk, but what did the Bushies think would happen? The Iraqi army was going to march out in front of them on an open plain and get slaughtered? Of course they would dis-appear into the general population. The mistake was using a smaller force with the expectation most Iraqis would not only feel liberated, but aid us in suppressing the tiny minority upset with events.I think Bush has admitted that they did NOT expect and therefor did not plan for such a rapid victory and a complete disintegration of the Iraqi army and police. That is poor contingency planning at best.

Who really doubts strings were pulled to get Bush into that unit? Seems so obvious... and inconsequential except to the guys who were sent in their place.The problem is that Barnes has already lied about this on videotape, and I use the word "lied" without difficulty, where he says he pulled strings for Bush when "I was lieutenant governor of Texas." The thing is that George W. Bush was sworn into the National Guard in May 1968. Ben Barnes didn't become lieutenant governor until 1969.Comment
