  • As much as the Kerry Spot has tried to keep up with this, PowerLine has been on top of this story all day long. That site just presented what ought to be the straw that breaks the camel's back:

In the August 18, 1973 memo "discovered" by 60 Minutes, Jerry Killian purportedly writes:

Staudt has obviously pressured Hodges more about Bush. I'm having trouble running interference and doing my job.

But wait! Reader Amar Sarwal points out that General Staudt, who thought very highly of Lt. Bush, retired in 1972.

Okay, CBS. The ball's in your court. Explain all this. Make all of this make sense. Don't completely ignore all of this, like you just did on the CBS Evening News.

"Just puttin on the foil" - Jeff Hanson

“In a democracy, I realize you don’t need to talk to the top leader to know how the country feels. When I go to a dictatorship, I only have to talk to one person and that’s the dictator, because he speaks for all the people.” - Jimmy Carter

    • My Word defaults can't be the same as the guy's in the link. The date comes up off line and not all the words fit on the same lines either.

I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

        • It might be because I have metric defaults?

                No one cares about those.

the turtle as a hero? jeez, he was in there maybe all of fifteen-twenty minutes, was clearly a "surfer dude"... there's no mention of drugs at all in that exchange--unless it's not possible to get high off of anything other than drugs... he wasn't particularly spaced-out, just easy-going... and how the hell is that anti-american?
                    TMNT are also blatant anti-americanism

Actually, they were a civilization that lost. The Indians had been fighting each other for domination, and were bested when the Europeans arrived. Big deal.

                      • Didn't Kerry admitt pulling strings to go to Swift Boats which at the time seemed to guruntee no combat?

So it would seem Kerry oplayed the same game but cut it too close.

Not that I see anything wrong with having connections. If you can tell me you have never recieved soething in life you shouldn't have because you knew someone then your a hermit. Now if he was not qualified, ie physically or something and still got it, THEN you would have a scandal.

You know I missed a breif the other day because of traffic, which I suppose I was ordered to go to sense anything related to my job is a order. I guess I should get a dishonorable dischage.

How is that any different from what I said?

                          • Given the CYA document, it's clear the only reason Bush got an honorable discharge is due to his political connections.
It was my understanding that Bush was given permission to work on someone's campaign for Congress. That was the reason for his slacking off on NG duties.

Drake, thanks for that article. I've heard Turnipseed used many times to accuse Bush of being AWOL and never knew the reporter lied.

Bush got in over 300 hours of flying, so what if he found something else to do and was allowed by the NG? Of course political connections were involved, but they were involved when students et al got deferments. I would think serving ~2 years in the NG would satisfy most people.

There is a difference between a loser and a victim.
