Just another indication, not that any were needed, of Mrs finbar's outstanding good sense.

Incidentally though, NZ GST is still 2.5% higher, in spite of labour promises to repeal it when they got in.

Incidentally I only just noticed that Wilko has been dumped (my words ) into the English captaincy?
Poor chap. As if he didn't have enough to worry about coming back from injury. I wish him all the best but I think he would've been much better off if he'd waited perhaps another season or two?

I don't really have the option to change careers right now. So one makes the best of things.

The message for me was to shift the work/life balance more towards life. Not a bad idea.

Looking forward to getting the sand beneath my toes this summer.
Any views I may express here are personal and certainly do not in any way reflect the views of my employer. Tis the rising of the moon..

A 63 year old is still the "best 7 in the premiership"?

          No Problem.

I was tempted to increase the font size there.
No need. The emboldened text was enough for my aging, ailing eyes. It was as I feared.

But then we are way past irony given your defence of Tamerlin’s free speech. I took that seriously of course.
I shall defend to my dying breath his right to say anything and everything with which I agree.

Quite. Touted the game too widely for TV revenue – and found itself committed to a fixture list that doesn’t fit into a year without overlap. Business defeats sport every time.
And now the English clubs won't release the Scotland players for the first of the Tests against us. We're facing an undermanned Scotland. Sorry about the tautology.

Yes, and a pattern is emerging, mon ami. Every time you write something with which I agree, it's sensible.

Not a weakness. No way in the world. They were splended arguments. On the basis that I agreed with them.

Good thinking. Mrs finbar is now officially retired. She decided life was too short to have to continue dealing with the f*ckwits with whom she had to work. I won't be far behind her. Life is much, much too short not to smell the roses. Or even tomatoes.

                    • Ah tomatoes - gardening has also rather suddenly risen up my list of priorities for some reason - I'm going to have another go this summer.

The saying in Canberra is not to plant until after the winner of the Melbourne Cup is known. We got in a little early last year

                      • Well, I've got a sh*tload of spare seedlings. Most are ready to plant out, but will live happily in their little pots for another two or three weeks. Let me know if you want some.

                        • Come down if you like - or I'll drop in next time I'm in Sydney.

The garden is still suffering a lot from the drought and water restrictions.

But we've had some rain over the last few weeks so things are looking up.

It seems plants, particularly trees and shrubs, feel the effects of drought for quite a long time. We didn't get a good blossom this year even though we had rain.

Oh yeah, this is a rugby thread - ummmm - did you know the mighty Vikings home ground is just down the hill from Horse House?

                          • I don't water anything but the tomatoes. The mighty Vikings, huh? Steve Larkham, amongst others, territory.

I am sure he will say that was the reason.

Borgoin? The name rings a bell. Are they the team that keep moving between your top and second flights?

I wish him all the best but I think he would've been much better off if he'd waited perhaps another season or two?
I agree totally. The problem is a lack of alternative candidates. With Hilly now crocked England is going to be a very young side indeed for the autumn games.

A 63 year old is still the "best 7 in the premiership"?
Why exactly do you think Sir Clive kept playing a natural blindside there for England? Then tried to draft in an Aussie. That’s right – because Moody was not fit and Backy still the best (but retired from that level after Clive ****** him about).

Moody actually survived the full 80 in an extras game on Saturday. He may well get thrown straight back in for England.

I shall defend to my dying breath his right to say anything and everything with which I agree.

Strange situation. Something to do with the timing of when this fixture was finalised.

The connection never crossed my mind.
I feel the need for that Pinnochio smiley again.

Incidentally it is nice to see yourself and Horse discussing summer plans on a morning where we have be warned to expect out worst winter in 100 years.

Since it climbed to the premiership, the CSBJ never came back to the second division. But Bourgoin's team is what you would call a perpetual unachiever, always close to the top but ever failing to win a major title. A bit like the Association Sportive Montferrandaise which never won the Bouclier de Brennus though the team reached the final many times.
