As far as I know he became a French citizen after his first selections, something that was certainly related to the need of the ASM to free a place for another foreigner.

On another front, promising news. I think I'm convincing Mrs finbar to spend an extended period in either France or Italy! But at a cost. I would have to use the time there to write a book. A small price to pay!

    I recommend south-western France...

Was with the govt. The US 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals to be exact. The 2nd Circuit being New York, Connecticut and Vermont. The people in my department were great, but we were being sorely mistreated by a woman at the top who had no clue about technology. To be frank, she was (is) a paranoid psychotic. Everyone in my dept started looking for a new job. I'm the only one who's found one so far.

Now I'm at a publishing company (Crain Communications) getting much better money and learning lots of new things.

In other news...we just bought a beautiful house in West Orange, New Jersey. We move in January.

      G. Henry is still leaning on Canterbury to play Daniel Carter at 5/8. Canterbury are telling G. Henry they'll do what they think is best for their team. But I think you're right, Carlos' AB days are numbered if not over. His is an interesting case of a wonderful S12 player who seems unable to adapt his game to Test rugby. Perhaps it's also an indication of the fundamental difference between S12 and Tests.
Carter's goal kicking was not up to his usual high standards in the Auckland game. Mehrtens did very well with his kicks in play though. I still think he should have an AB Jersey. He might just get one if Canterbury win the NPC..

Considering how much time it can take to write a book, it might be a very extended period? But then you probably write faster than I can (not even talking of being published).

I can think of worse places! The choice is between France and Italy. It's hard to know which. I speak more French than I do Italian, not that my French is very good. I did seven years of it at school so I have a good grasp of the basics. The idiom, of course, is the challenge.

Still, at least Mrs finbar's change of attitude has given me cause for hope.

I've often wondered what the 2nd Circuit meant within the American court system. Presumably there are other circuits with numbers?

I'd like to be there for at least two years, regardless. Any less would feel like a holiday, which isn't either what I'm after or the point of the exercise. Obviously I'm not going to come to grips with a new country in just two years, but it would be a reasonable start.

              • Leicester 16 drew with Bath 16

On top of our federal government being returned with an increased majority this is all I needed - a late Leciester try to save them from defeat!

                  Mmmm.
Well, all short holidays have to end sometime I suppose.

ravagon would like to say that he's been happily sunning himself in beautiful Tuscanny for the past couple of weeks but that would no doubt evoke a plethora of 's from somebody or other.
Aside from that it wouldn't exactly be entirely truthful either.
Anyway, ravagon has now found somewhere else to live, packed up all of his meager worldly possessions, moved them the grand distance of ~3.5km and unpacked them all again, managing to lose only his flippin' tax return thingummy in the process.
                  :very proud:

Somewhere in all of that he got himself stuck in third person too but he's working on it as he types.

So has anything interesting happened in the rugby world in the last few weeks?
The Leicester draw aside of course. This being interesting of course only due to the fact that they didn't manage to lose again.

Incidentally, what do ballot boxes go for on e-bay these days? Fresh from a couple of those marginal Labour electorates I'm told. Still sealed so they've never been counted.
Probably should hold on to them - let them appreciate in value for a while ...

                  • At some point last week, as she contemplated the inevitability of the government being re-elected, Mrs finbar actually pondered a move to New Zealand. That's how deeply, deeply depressed she was feeling.

                    • Well it seems work falls apart when I take a few days off. Hopefully I will get chance to read back properly later.

Do you remember Tamerlin’s friend Chris White? Guess who refereed the Tigers-Bath game? Guess who saw Bath in all sorts of trouble in the scrum and watched their tight head Bell popping up all the time and did bugger all? Same Mr White.

They scored a lucky try via that Aussie flanker England are trying out – and thanks to Whitey letting their forwards get away with murder (I swear their blindside was the 9th man behind our scrum most of the time) they made it hard for us. The second half let class tell with them getting just one scrappy drop goal and Tigers scoring two beautiful tries.

That ‘last minute’ try that annoyed Finbar so much is worth seeing – opportunistic scrummie play at it’s best. Harry Ellis for England it would seem.

Still it was two points dropped against a poor Bath outfit that punched above their weight. Hoping for more next week at Quins (and I would recommend you all check out the current table).

And Ravagon – I’m rather hoping they manage avoiding losing again for a while (the next two games are Quins away then Calvisano at home – losing either would be something of a disaster).

                          • Ah, Havak, the RFU sure knows how to hang you out to dry, doesn't it?
Sounds much more like lazy journalism in a slow news week to me.

As you say – no debate on this one.

IMO, the former system was much closer to the spirit of our beloved game.
Currying favour with the SH boys Tamerlin? Shame on you.

Yeah, I think Carlos may be on the way out soon as far as the ABs go
Now he has announced that he will not tour this November so he can rest various niggling ‘injuries’ I think we can safely assume the time of Carlos is well and truly over?

And lock-jaw, now retired fro England duty, has entered the club-country debate pointing out the rather obvious fact that clubs should not have to play on weekends where England do. As everyone but the RFU realise.

Four losses in a row for Krige’s Saints side now (lost to Kafer’s woeful mob Sunday). Solomons is coming under huge pressure for his foreign legion summer signings not performing.

Yes, each refers to a geographical area. I think there are 9 circuits in all.

Nope, I watched the taped game last night before looking back at this thread. Did you see the game? It had the most thrilling finish I've seen for a long time.

That's what I like - an objective view of a match.

I just did. My eyesight must be failing. I couldn't make out the name of the team on top. Could you do my aging, ailing eyes a favour and spell it out for me?
